That’s a size larger than average. I think you can try to start with 7 stitches. Just follow the pattern. Bear it in your mind that the multiplier in front of the left parentheses will be 7, where it says 6; will be 6 where it says 5. The total number of stitches of each row will be increment of 7 as well. Also, at row 12, the pattern says the diameter should be 18 cm (= 7”), so, if at the end of row 12, diameter of your hat is not (63 cm / 3.1417 = 7.89”), you can crochet additional rows of row 12 until you get the diameter of 7.89” or 20.05 cm. I shared this information with you as I just finished one for myself and I am working on a toddler’s size. Have fun!
