oh gosh i think i discovered something really bad 😭😭😭 in episode one of the series you can see that somebody was attacked by a fork and says the person that attacked them was a she, if you look at 3:00 a clock has a fork stabbed into it. as we know eden is the ultimate clockmaker and also goes by she/her pronouns, the person stabbed by the fork (which im assuming is xander if you look at the pattern of the scratches on his eye) says "i made a massive mistake to trust them." and eden is probably the most "trustable" person in the cast. so i'm thinking eden was actually the one who attacked xanders eye, and maybe asked for him to kill teruko

Originally, this was supposed to include images so this comment may not make sense. I just copy and pasted this from my notes. I will release a google doc maybe tho I am going to share some theories. Something that has always caught my eye is how danganronpa despair time has a unique spin on the protagonist and antagonist roles. Ever since i heard the interpretations that Teruko is the antagonist but we are in her point of view, making her the protagonist of drdt, makes me interested already. However, after watching, I have noticed something about our fan favourite antagonist David. What if David Chiem was supposed to be the protagonist to the game’s system? The thought of this came to my mind when I noticed David Chiem’s ahoge. It is silly but he has the protagonist ahoge. I think the only character (besides Teruko) who has it. I’ve thought deeper into his role of the antagonist in Teruko’s eyes: what if he IS the protagonist to the game’s system, however turned to be the real antagonist all along. More points to support this, (credits to finally_in_reverse in the yt comments) in Literature Girl Insane fan-mv where David Chiem stars in, the description mentions this certain line: “In this situation, it is better to use full names over nicknames. Exclude our protagonist-he is not “that person.”” The protagonist is referred with he/him pronouns, so it can’t be Teruko since in canon, yknow. You know who else is referred in he/him pronouns? David Chiem. I do not know what the line means though, but I know David is very suspicious. It is obvious that Teruko has an antagonistic personality: pessimism and blunt. On the other hand, David’s personality at first was like a protagonist: hopeful, optimistic and awkward. (I cannot find keywords to describe personalities better, pls let me know if i seemed to mischaracterise them) However, he later descends to madness in chapter 2’s trial and reveals his true antagonistic personality. David was actually manipulative and selfish. I had this small thought: “was there/will there be a phase where Teruko acts like an actual protagonist?” But that is not important. I think there is a reason why he acts like a bitch though… let’s look at the lore I had a theory, the game is stuck in a time loop and David is trying to stop it. Veronika foreshadows this by telling us a story about “a boy stuck in a time loop and forced to watch his friends die for eternity” and so on. Some of the descriptions matches David, don’t you think? “While he is horrified at first” it could be David’s starry-eyed persona being genuine in the earlier time loops. “Becomes more concerned over his growing boredom” “starts to fall into a more sinister tone” David is foul-mouthed. Since the story Veronika talks about might be in the boy’s perspective… “protagonist descends into insanity over time” David is an insane person. manipulated people. It maybe not be accurate, but what Veronika said is definitely foreshadow. this reminded me of another part in Drdt, especially the way beginning of this serious, I had a thought: you know the mysterious, unnamed person in the prologue? What if the person in the beginning of the prologue, episode 1, is the boy stuck in the time loop The boy wants to end the killing game as he is sick of seeing his friends die. Using his memory of the previous loops, he tries to fix mistakes and even end up tricking the game system by switching David and Teruko’s roles in the game. Let’s go back to the literary girl nonsense mv. A screen cap shows a cast list. The main roles are listed: David Chiem and Xander Matthews. Which is unusual, Teruko is supposed to be the main cast right? Instead, she is listed under “supporting cast”. There was also a name: Mai Akasaki crossed out. If you don’t know Mai, she is the red hair girl that appeared in Teruko’s flashback. This proved my point further that David was the protagonist. Teruko was the antagonist. Xander could be the secondary protagonist that was supposed to live until the end of game then. Remember in chapter 1, there was a note saying “kill Teruko” that was sent to Xander? It was never confirmed who sent the note. But I do have an idea that David was the one that sent the note. Xander is a big fan of David, so David uses that as an advantage to control him to attempt to kill Teruko. But why would he do that? The answer is, so he messes up the Danganronpa’s system so the protagonist and antagonist roles switch, to stop the time loop I guess as he doesn’t want to watch his friends die all over again. And he has also been lead to insanity. David is not the only one I am suspicious about though… Veronika is suspicious. If the foreshadowing is true, how does she know all this? Could she be the mastermind? Maybe the game’s system got messed up so she broke in? Could she be involved with the mastermind, perhaps the traitor? David and Veronika definitely have memories about the past time loops then… Tdlr: David was the protagonist stuck in the time loop of the killing game. He was horrified at his friends dying so in the next loops, he tries to end the game, only resulting his friends die all over again and again. This time, he sends a note to his friend that stayed by him the last loops, Xander. This makes things different by switching his and Teruko’s roles of the “protagonist”, tricking the system. This is so he hopes things will turn out different and the game ends.

[ 3:00 ] **Mai Akasaki** - "**Portrait of someone dearly loved**" **Teruko Tawaki** - "**Portrait of someone dearly unloved**" Theory: David may have manipulated Xander into killing Teruko, to avenge Mai in some sort of way. This would explain why Xander listened to the note rather than flatly refused, because he looked up to David and had a celebrity crush (sort of) on him, meaning he would be more likely to follow orders if he knew it was from David. I presume that both David and Teruko knew Mai, but Mai suffered the consequences of Teruko’s bad luck and either died or wound up severely injured (most likely dead). This could have lead David to grow hateful towards Teruko and believing it was her fault, which isn’t much of a stretch considering the few memories that remain intact prior to the Killing Game are ones that the Headmaster believes would be more likely to drive you to kill. This isn’t to say David didn’t love/care for Xander, he very clearly did, this is just some food for thought.

No idea of what the description means, but it's probably a phrase so my theory for the fourth one: In japanese, the number four can be read as "shi", just like death 四 → kanji for four, pronunciation being "shi" 死 → kanji for death, pronunciation also being "shi" "Shi" has the same pronunciation as "she", which leads to the word being "she" JUST A THEORY BTW

Looking from this, it shows that quite a bit of the cast have a hinted Eastern Asian background. I think it's also confirmed that Whit has an Asian parent but I can't confirm nor deny this. If we go back to the footnote, we can see it talks about a superstition found mainly in Eastern Asia and families that come from that area. Guys the last name on the supporting cast list at 3:06 says: "M[] Naegi" if you compare the three middle letters of the surname (if you can't see them zoom on the image they're barely visible) with the a, g, and e in Nageishi you'll see that; the first and second letters have a single pixel from the background in the middle and on the left side respectively, just like how the highest point of the parabola in the letter a is in the middle and, in the e it's more on the left side since the right side of thw letter is fat, the third one is definitely a g as you can see by the barely visible line at the right side of the round part, and from that the other two make much more sense.
