[東方獣王園] Touhou 19 OST - 勇敢で有閑な妖獣 (Enoko's theme)

This was prolly my favourite new Boss theme overall, that main melody just works SUPER well with the chords beneath..

Enoko Mitsugashira =Cerberus of Forested Silence= Species: Immortal yamainu Ability: Capable of manipulating traps Saki is hyping her up as being "just like Cerberus itself" A yamainu who once ate Zanmu's flesh back when Zanmu was human. As a result, she is eternally cursed. She lived quietly in the Forest of Magic, but she never fully awakened despite having a close-to-eternal lifespan. She spent a long time as a simple beast who was getting on in years, idly waiting for the flame of her life to expire. But one day, something called to her from the depths of her heart. It was the voice of the strange monk, who had kept laughing even though Enoko ate her flesh. "Lucky beast, who devoured mine flesh. A beautiful gem lies nearby. Devour it." In response to that voice that made her heart tremble, her latent power awakened. The gemstone was similar to one of the Moon's precious orbs, which purified life. The moment the beast picked it up, all the impurity around her began to be siphoned away. It seemed that she had become truly immortal. The voice continued, giving her orders. "Devour all the beast spirits up here atop the land." However, the strongest beast spirit of all, Saki Kurokoma, met and placated her. The one who introduced Saki to her... was also that strange monk, Zanmu. By the way, her bear trap opens when she splays her hand, and snaps shut when she clenches her fist. It's very dangerou... um, convenient.

the latter half of this theme feels a little melancholic like it's trying to get up but continously trips over

Her design is so pretty!!! And that's saying a lot considering the new characters we've gotten. If I were to describe this theme it would be energetic and determined. Really gives off the feeling of someone who is here to fight and willing to wing no matter what. The section beginning 1:54 especially makes my brain serotonin pop off

Enoko's shots create blood splashes when hitting enemies. They do look pretty sharp.

She is easily the best playable character among the new cast along with Chiyari who is clearly OP with her Level2 attack. Her LVL1 beartraps are quite strong and satisfying but her LVL2 attack is the real deal with the capability of inflicting high damage on great range with bullet-cancelling aftereffect too. Her exorcism aura has a great scope too. One of the few characters I managed to clear Hard mode with. Her boss attack dancing sprite is so cute and she shoots unique danmaku too. She's an all-around satisfying and worthy character in the game with an interesting backstory. Her theme has the combination of heroic and melancholic elements. Honestly, this theme jumps around in terms of emotions but I dare to say it's more heroic than nihilistic, despite ZUN's comment. A lot of work went into this theme that's for sure as it has so many melodies.

It's bittersweet to see an extinct animal thrive in Gensoukyou and even go on to become an immortal youkai.

This gives me Hartman Youkai Girl vibes ngl

I still find it funny that Saki just saw a dog with two inverse bear-traps in her hands and immediately thought of Cerberus.

ZUN recently seems to be more liberal at adding ToES in his theme, huh? Sannyo in Touhou 18 has blatant iconic ToES motif in it, this theme also has that but much shorter and more subtle

Why does this OST feel so solemn. 💀 Anyone wanna fill me in on the story for 19? Almost wondering if we're nearing the end of Touhou soon with how sad it sounds, lmao.
