No need to be nervous. This part of Marseille reminds me of Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, especially in the day hours "before 8pm". It's a missive mixed ethnics neighborhood with mostly very friendly Africans to Asians (from BOTH continents). Amazing ethnic food choices by the way. Hustlers that "look like" they'll rob you actually leave you alone because you're NOT their target market audience, unless you want to get your nails done and hair braided/weaved, this is the best hood for beautification. The ethnic neighborhood becomes hot and fun with the Parisians/Caucasians and few tourists after 8pm. The day time ethnic populations go home after dark and almost 90% of the Caucasians show up transforming the hood into a "predominantly white neighborhood" due to many bars with low cost alcoholic beverages. After 7-8pm, friends and coworkers come for the open bars hanging out into the early am hours. Don't bring the young kids after 8pm to Porte Saint-Denis, unless they also enjoying drinking for hours with lots fun white folks, loud noises, and plenty free cigarette smokes.
Bonjour, I'm from kaohsiung....interedtjng comparisons...😂. I was traveling there on my own...an Asian woman walking alone on the street seemed to get some attention...not so friendly vibe. I was totally scared to death when a dude on the skateboard rushing towards me super fast while I was withdrawing money from an ATM near the harbor....I almost screamed at the thought I was going to get robbed.....the moment I would never forget...😂
