Definitely different from Southern and Northern Chinese Lion dancing! Someday I'm going to collect all the heads from all cultures lol. All the dances are just so unique and beautiful, as well as the craftsmanship for the lion heads.
@@user-tl1bw4wp1c 👍😁 Okinawa was also an independent country that was invaded and annexed by japan, who then proceeded to completely wipe out it’s unique culture. Okinawa and the rest of the Ryukyus are their own thing...but unlike Taiwan, Japan isn't villianized so people don't care -Fred Leeland
@yclana1 This is a lion dance of Okinawa. It is thought that this lion dance started around 1400. (Okinawa was an independent country called Ryukyu Dynasty at the time.) It seems that they took in the kata(style) of shuritei(karate of those days) to the lion dance introduced from China(Ming Dynasty), and made it develop into original dancing. The lion dance is danced in order to disperse the evil spirit which spread when God goes away after the harvest or the Bon Festival.
