'Drink coffee' is 100% correct no matter where you are in the world!!! Some native speakers say it day in day out; you can also see it in the authentic BBC news etc.

It always depends on the context - the video outlined the situations where using “drink coffee” might be a bit awkward. Meanwhile, if a person wants to describe his habit of “consuming coffee daily”, then it’s fine to use “drink” - “I drink coffee every day.” Thanks for sharing your thoughts here!

- up for something 係問對方對呢個plan 有無興趣,回答可以係 "yeah, I'm up/down for it." (無錯, up 同 down 都得) - take 有「服用」嘅意思(例如 take some medicine),所以 how do you take your coffee 係問你想點飲咖啡 - drink 有時都會用,但係重點會放落飲呢個動作。例如枱上面有杯咖啡,問人飲唔飲就會問 "Hey do you want to drink this (coffee)?"

There really is no strict guidelines as ways to express your needs and wants are many. Though some samples given are essentially a direct thought process which may sometimes be lost in translation, Melody's usage are very much flexible and in line with the North American way of the day-to-day general verbal communication and easily understood by most. Just bear in mind, languages are fluid and interchangeable but more importantly the underlying principles and it's application should have a higher value as opposed to merely memorizing by rote. In order to attain level of proficiency and fluency, just USE it and DO NOT be shy and not to worry about making mistakes as we are only humans. Good work, Melody!

Sorry if there’s any confusion caused by the title (sometimes it’s exaggerated for the sake of RU-vid’s algorithms), but hope the examples given in the video help clarify. It’s mentioned that the usage of “drink coffee” isn’t wrong, but it’s just less appropriate in contexts where you invite somebody for a coffee.

Here's another example. You don't "eat your medicine". You "take your medicine". Also, try using "may I, can I" instead of I want or give me". A little bit of politeness or courtesy goes a long way in establishing good interpersonal relations. Remember, "you don't get a second chance to make a first impression ".

Please try to avoid "grab". According to dictionary (and in common usage) it implies "quickly get hold of something. It also implies getting coffee from Starbucks "to go/takeaway". If the intention is to invite someone to have a chat over coffee, it is probably better to say "have a coffee", "have a chat over coffee", "would you like to have some coffee" (when inviting someone to your home).

@@Woodland26 you can say black for things. For people you can say African American or if they are your friends you can say black. I asked my African American friend this question, whether it was okay. More than one person told me it was fine. I mean we do say Black History month which was in February. We do not say African American History Month. Some people dont really care if you refer to them as Black, depends on the person.

We do say drink coffee. What is the problem???

It depends on the context - the video outlined the situations where using “drink coffee” will be unnatural

I drink coffee every day,連影片內也沒有提及視乎情況而定

Melody😊

It's the company's policy./ We have to stick to the book./ We have to do things by the book. We can't meet/fulfill your requirements./ We can't do this./ This is out of my hands. (我覺得講得,簡單就是美)/ Sorry about that. / My apologies / Thank you for your understanding.

Your title is misleading ! There’s nothing wrong with using “ drink” when one is literally drinking coffee . It’s just that other ways are used depending on the context .
