Thank goodness the Prime Minister is wise and patient... The only person I've seen thus far in this drama who is in politics/the government that is ACTUALLY serious about state affairs and considers the concerns of the people, economy, and businesses
i noticed with this _and_ yanxi palace where they chose actors who look slightly familiar to play qianlong's brothers. it really looked like they were half-siblings. the queen and princess really _do_ look like they're actually related. even the prince looks like her.
Really scary that ambition can overpower love. It’s sad to see he chose power over his lover, and let her be tortured 😖 like that. Then expect he can get her back after what she went through.
Sadly this depicts the status of women culturally during this period of time. They were thought of as property and political bargaining chips, in addition to the bonus round of child bearing.
A scary era where women were treated like a cattle of the "advanced" men. But to this day there are families who seeks the bussiness in marriage. I hope Haolan gets her revenge on everyone who did her wrong.

It's easy to recognise the bad people, even more the women. They're played by the same actresses all the time. Must be rough playing bad people in many dramas XD
Yes it’s a shame to see actors stereotyped in roles. I know almost immediately who to watch out for as villains based on prior roles played in other dramas. What is a greater concern is for actors who have great acting skills and are bold enough to go against stereotypes. They then have to deal with small minded individuals that judge by looks and not their acting skills and want to keep them stereotyped. This has been noted by at least two male actors of late. On the one side you need work to pay for living expenses. On the other side, there is nothing wrong with expanding ones capabilities, displaying ones skills and wanting to achieve more career options by breaking out of the typical stereotyped box…
Thank you fo reminding me who she was! I watched the episode in halves and for some reason could not recognize her in the scene at the end of the episode.
she even reunites with jixiang (zhang yixi), the maid from the beginning of yanxi palace who became wei yingluo's first friend (and was later killed after being framed by linglong). this time, she's situ yue, lü buwei's maid.
It's kinda sweet seeing that the prince actually *does* love her. It was just a matter of background. A reason for marriages not being possible for the longest time. He's true to her despite being a pos and having a greedy personality. Also her "little girl" voice is so cute
According to Sima Qian, the great Chinese historian, de ancient Chinese courts were terrifying nests of traitorous snakes. Behind the mask of strict formality of politeness hide murderous envies. Families and entire clans were executed for insidious banalities created by eunuchs or servants. Ministers, ladies-in-waiting, favorites, fell sick with fear because of the disappearance of a hairpin of the super exclusive boudoir of the empress. According to Lü Buwei's Annals (Lüshi Chunqiu), 228 people we executed by King Zichu, included his concubine and her son, after the rebellion organized by General Bi Zhong. In the battle of Changping, the Qin General defeats the army of the Zhao State and orders as a matter of expediency, the execution of 450 000 soldiers, including their wives and children a while later.
