Today I am going to talk about
ultimate emptiness.
宇宙間的道理很多
There are many truths in the universe.
甚至真理
As for the truth,
你說你真理 他說他真理
you say what you said is the truth;
he says what he said is the truth.
究竟什麼是真理
What is the real truth?
畢竟空
In ultimate emptiness,
空就是一個真理
emptiness is the truth.
畢竟空就是究竟的還要空
Ultimate emptiness means
it's ultimately empty;
空空
it's emptiness of emptiness.
空是什麼意思
What does emptiness mean?
大家聽了很畏懼、很害怕
Everyone is scared and dreaded
when hearing it.
唉呀 四大皆空
Oh, the four elements are empty?!
其實這個是錯誤的想法
Factually this is a false idea.
四大皆空就是四大皆有
The four elements are empty
means that the four elements exist.
空是建設有的
Emptiness invokes existence.
要空才能有
Everything builds upon emptiness.
不空就沒有啦
Nothing develops without emptiness.
例如虛空
For example, empty space
這個虛空很大
is magnificent.
虛空裡面就能擁有萬有
Empty space embraces the universe.
萬物萬事都在虛空裡
All things are included in empty space.
我要
I,
很多人 我要一個大的房子
like many others, want a big house,
我要有空地
or, I want a vacant land.
有了空地
After I have a vacant land,
就是空即是色
emptiness will turn into existence
我就能建個大樓了
as I build a house upon it.
我有口袋
I have a pocket,
我能放錢、放零碎的東西
so I can carry my money
and trivial stuff in it.
我有皮箱
I have a suitcase,
我就能放很多的東西
so I can stuff my things into it.
空有空間才能有
Space accommodates things.
不空就沒有啦
Without space nothing can be held.
茶杯空就能倒茶倒水
Only an empty glass can hold water.
飯碗空我就能盛飯盛菜
With an empty bowl
I can put dishes and rice into it.
空是建設有的
Emptiness is for existence.
所以我們要感謝空
We shall be grateful to emptiness.
當然這個世界上很多的人
Of course there are
many people in the world,
為了一點土地
fight for a piece of land
唉唷 打官司
and even go into a lawsuit.
為了爭取一條巷子
They argue over the ownership
of a lane
或者幾寸土地
or a piece of land at the expense
朋友成仇
of their friendship.
這就是空 因為人人都需要
Everyone needs emptiness,
可是真正的談到這空的道理
but when it comes to
the truth of emptiness,
他不敢聽
everyone is scared to listen to it.
這個就是
This means
你懂得空的道理
if you understand
the principle of emptiness,
你就懂得這個世間一切
you will understand
everything in the world
都變化的
is also changeable.
空 不定形的
Emptiness has no fixed form.
你要方形 空就是方的
It can be square,
你長形 空就是長的
rectangular,
圓形 空就是圓形
or even circular if you want it to be.
空是無相的
Emptiness has no form.
空是虛空無相
Emptiness is spatial without form.
無所無不相
Nothing dwells in a form.
什麼都在虛空裡面
Everything is embraced by empty space.
每一個人都逃不了
No one can escape from
離開這個空間
and leave this space.
我們現在建造房子
Nowadays when we construct a house,
有所謂三尺巷 防火巷
we have to build a 3 meter firebreak lane.
這個是當初也有個典故
There was a story like this:
這個兒子跟人家為了牆壁、巷子
A man had a dispute over the ownership
of a wall, a lane,
這麼一點土地 爭執
or say a piece of land.
爭執不下就報告京城裡的父親
Being on the losing side, he reported this
to his father in the capital city.
父親就回他一首偈語
He only got a stanza from his father
大官的父親
who was an officer. It said:
萬里投書只為牆
The letter sent from thousand miles away
was just for the sake of a wall.
讓他三尺有何妨
Compromising the 3 meters lane
wouldn't hurt.
萬里長城今猶在
The Great Wall is still here nowadays
不見當初秦始皇
while the Emperor Qin Shi Huang
was nowhere to be seen.
所以要懂得空
Therefore we need to understand emptiness.
什麼事都能想得開
We have to be positive in everything.
空很大 空很有
Emptiness is grand and existent.

對這個空的富有
knows the wealth of emptiness
要能瞭解
in a deeper meaning,
要能擁有
so you can have access to it.
