Dua Space was invited by Datuk Ramli Ibrahim to produce a dance video for RENTAK BUMI in 2021 under the support of ArtFAS and Yayasan Hasanah. We decided to readapt one of the company’s iconic works entitled ‘Tropical Rainforest’, choreographed by company founder and director, Mr Anthony Meh in 2002.
‘Tropical Rainforest’ was created for the full-time company’s repertory archive, the dance piece featured an artistic direction of merging local ethnic dance elements with modern dance techniques, fulfilling the company’s endeavor as a local contemporary dance company. He presented this work when Istana Budaya selected him as one of the best male local choreographers, the Emas 10.
Malaysia is a tropical nation that owns one of the oldest known rainforests. The flora and fauna biodiversity is a treasure for the country, nurturing the people of different cultures and races. Our primitive belief in nature spirits and mysterious myths inspired Mr Anthony to come out with the idea of presenting the mysterious image of a tribe living in the rainforest, dancing with a unique movement language that combines dance elements from different races of Malaysia.

At the same time, we invited the creator, Mr Anthony himself to share the creative insights of the dance piece, hoping to deliver a wider understanding and elevate the artistic appreciation among the audience.
