haha that's very basic skills for the translator.Actually Mr.Yang himself speaks quite fluent English.He even gave a heads up about the poll during the translation,adding the poll was conducted by the US.on the other hand,The American can't even understand a word without the not- so -helpful -purple -hair -lady's interpretation while the Chinese side understood well enough of their counterparts talk and have plenty of time to prepare the "attack back"

The Chinese delegation can be seen to have fully controlled over their expression to make sure not even the slightest detail in the English translation version should be overlooked or mistranslated as it came to the point at which Mr Yang just briefly reminded a missing term ignored by his lady translator . The problem is that US is still relying on Chinese Haters to make policy on China. Mr Wang and Mr Yang they both can speak fluent English plus Mr Wang can also speak Japanese. They actually dont need a translator. Translator is actually for media and audience.
They represent China. of course must deliver their speech in own language. To speak in the other party's language in talks like this... would be a slap and insult on their own countrymen and leaders. The translator did a magnificent job of translating Director Yang’s lengthy opening statements, I’m truly awestruck. The translation of Blinken’s blurb into Mandarin was kind of iffy however, and glossed over a few definitions.

One thing ive noticed, the chinese side can understand what the americans are saying while they were saying it in english in real time, while the american side had to wait for the interpreter to give them the engish version. Yang can even correct the interpreter when she made a mistake. this alone give the chinese officers much more advantage in terms of comprehending and responding . Also the US brought a pretty incompetent interpreter with them, i assume the chinese side dont even really needs to hear from the purple lady
