FULL video at: www.rojodojo.c... We continue to explore the Gikan Ryū waza as taught by Noguchi Sensei in Japan. 其の十 Sono Jū has a 骨法術 koppōjutsu focus. In fact, this form uses five strikes in quick succession.
I went through each in detail. I showed the strike, the kyūsho, and I described what Noguchi Sensei showed us about how each target affects the opponent’s body. The first two were 打拳受 daken uke.
I emphasized the 開く hiraku style sabaki that is a specialty of Gikan Ryū. Nouguchi Sensei was subtle about this. He even used cross steps to get the perfect distance leading into the next strike.
The third strike hit 流 nagare. By now the opponent’s arms have been broken down. But the angle of this strike really affects the structure of the opponent’s fighting stance.
While the attacker tries to recover, we target 弱筋 jakkin for the fourth strike. Noguchi Sensei showed both inside and outside. When I did this my training partners all lost their balance completely.
From here we leap into strike 十字路 Jūjiro with 金剛拳 Kongō ken. This is a crushing blow that can break bones. I shared how Noguchi Sensei used the connection made in the previous strike to expose and set up this target.
All of these strikes flow quickly one to the next. I used some weapon henka to highlight this aspect. First with a hanbō, the weapon blends with your expression of 骨法術 koppōjutsu. Then, with the katana, I showed the same koppōjutsu in both lethal and nonlethal handling of this weapon.
Of Note: sweat of the year award
