I have been working in the U.K. for nearly 40 years & have conducted numerous interviews in my working life, mainly for accountancy professionals. Yes I must confess I never check the candidate’s certificates. From my experience developing a rapport during an interview is important as it gives you a good indication if it’s a good fit. Interests outside work is important too as it gives you some idea of the candidate’s personality. Yes reference is important, so when you leave your old job please must sure you leave on good terms & please please don’t burn the bridge.

Here in the Midwest USA seeking employment in a manufactory having something some people didn’t think about . It’s height ! In three different incidents , though I ‘d have many years of the experience they were looking for and have no unfavorable comments plus recommendation letter from my former employers ( due to company’s employees reduction or out sources ), I lost to young men who were 5’ 10” to 6’ tall . I am 5’4”. Now I am 76 and retired .
There is one more question that they will ask is why you're leaving your previous job. Please don't say your boss is an arsehole and my colleague is a bitch they don't like hearing these, make some excuses such as you need to contribute more time to your family at that time or moving house the previous job is too far away from home etc otherwise just be yourself and be positive.
