They overdid it though - slowdown on Mushihimesama, unlike other CAVE games, does not depend on an internal timer, but rather on the actual hardware being overloaded
@@EvrainBrandigan it's like that for all Cave cv1000 games. There are two types if slowdown: set by programmers in certain parts, and as a result of pixel saturation (cpu bound). All games are designed arround these factors.
Around 2000 or so, hardware performance limitations made the game slow when too many bullets appeared on the screen.. Since then, the processing speed of the hardware has increased, but the developers intentionally designed it to be slow in the light emission pattern. This partial slow mod gives the user some strength to survive a wall of many bullets. For example, the Touhou Project PC game with a lot of bullet expression gives you the option to turn off this slow mode.

I like the fact that while most of Dodonapchi's TLB last attacks are extremely difficult, but still possible to dodge, this one is just _purely 100% impossible to dodge._
Man, now that I have this game, I'm probably not going to touch Ultra Mode for a while. That last attack was enough to convince me to stay on Original Mode, lol.
I'm already not great at the game lol. Then again it's not like Touhou prepared me for this caliber of bullet hell. I might just for lols, I think I would definitely get past the first stage on 1cc, but not much farther than that. Then again, I wouldn't know until I tried.
So the normal final boss - tough as nails, but with a ton of practice, completely achievable. TLB - Beatable only by glitching the game. Functions as a resource check rather than a skill check. Fun design there, Cave. Totally.
Just how this player learn the pattern of every enemy and not confused with the indefinable purple thingy. Kinda lost my sanity before lose the character.

just when you thought junko was poorly designed and reqired pixel perfect dodge to beat her cave is like "oh we can do better than that, here is a boss that actually requires you to glitch the game to be beaten!"
More like... "Hey, you thought Junko was bad? Why don't you go back to 2002 and face Aki in Mushihime-sama? He makes Junko look like Cirno in terms cheapness. Precise dodging? Pfft! That's for amateurs. How about having to glitch the game itself just to stand a chance to beat him? So... have fun! Hehehe!"

Ik that's a joke but Touhou wasn't meant to be the hardest. It mainly focus on patterns, not THROWING SOME FUCKING PURPLE SHITS THAT ARE LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DODGE.
this is someone who not only can walk outside during the rain and come back inside completely dry, but also can probably go swimming underwater without touching any water molecules
*The difficulty says "PLAY AT YOUR OWN RISK".* So essentially its a waiver so that the developer doesn't take liability for any player that comes down with any physical or emotional scars from attempting the game. Intense $(*&%!!

+ZGK&NAZ Yeah, it's definately possible. Only the hitbox of the oval small bullets are accurate. Bigger bullets have a relatively small hitbox. I know this is usually the case with shoot-em-ups, but in this case, it's even more so. It's by no means easy to beat it without bombs, but it's definately possible.
GG im wondering which type of controller you use and which ones you recommend? currently im using retrobit saturn wireless, mayflash f101 and Gamesir T4 kaleid and for some reason im getting most consistent results on the Gamesir analog maybe I just need to be used to the f101, I feel also that after a session of Zero Gunner I tend to see the speed patters of mushi much slower and that helps me, do you recommend some excercise or some routine or just practicing stages is more than enough?
Amazing as always! It's good to finally have a high-quality video of Mushihimesama Ultra on youtube. Indeed, it's great that Cave is coming to steam and I can't wait to get them all. Maybe I'll become better m'self, hmm? I'm most excited for Futari though, personally. I've always loved the ultra-mode, if only for how batshit insane it is. Are you going to give it an attempt?
Im looking for a game i played on arcade back in 97,. i dont remember the name of it.. but it was like this, only you can choose different types of jets, even a bat could be chosen.. can some one help me ?????
TGA-RET dodges it for 10 seconds in the official superplay DVD. assy_san also fairly recently did a no-miss of Ultra and dodged it for about 10 seconds.
At least it's has an added bonus of making the bullets move slower.Not that it matters it's not like any normal player can make it out of that giant bullet cluster fuck

I love how most of the bosses are “utterly insane, need to resource manage and bomb through many attacks” and then normal aki just uses very hard but otherwise dodgable attacks that can be pointblanked. Then TLB aki is actually on the easy side, except for THAT attack.

Which is funny because back then the company created an arcade board (for this game and newer) under the claim of "Look at how many sprites we can put on screen at the same time!". So yeah, you are not that far from truth

Normally, on games like this, the "bullets" would come so fast that I wouldn't react to them until AFTER I was hit. Though I would see them briefly enough to see the gaps. But this final boss however, several times, I can't even see any! XD
Amusingly, this game was made by a lot of the same people that made Zero Wing. The shooter with the infamously bad "all your base" translation. Zero Wing was made by Toaplan, which went out of business in 1994, but a lot of the former employees founded CAVE who made this game.
Being said that the last pattern is pretty notorious, would Blue Wish's last phase on Desperate also be considered notorious due to it being pretty much nearly impossible to beat? I've tried but nothing good of it so far. Not even sure if anyone has cleared it yet...
Ok whoa. I know I've heard the music from that 2nd level somewhere before...a long time ago. Shoot. It's bothering me. I want to say that it was in a Super Mario World hack or something. Gosh-darn-it. Well, glad to finally randomly discover where it's originally from.
You're using supershot right? Do you still use supershot while your hitbox is visible? I know hitbox only appears when holding the shot button in which, holding full auto and rapid shot does not do that Or are you somehow still using supershot while still seeing your hitbox? If so, how do you do that? (I've played a lot of Touhou games now, so I'm trying my hand at CAVE games this time around, so I'm VERY new here)
