たすき掛けとは、着物の袂(袖)をたくし上げて紐(襷紐)でくくり、腕周りを自由にする方法を指します。
活動的な際に特に用いられます。
Tasukigake refers to a method of pulling up the sleeves of a kimono and tying them with a string (sash cord), leaving the arm area free.
Especially used when being active.
Tasukigake(襷掛け) is a method of tying a kimonowith a string so that the Tamoto (sleeve) of the
kimono does not get in the way during work or battle.
This time, we will introduce Tasukigake using
the sageo(下緒) attached to the sword sheath(Saya).
The sageo is not for Tasukigake, but it was oneof the samurai's wisdom to utilize these surrounding objects as needed.
There is a theory that sageo(下緒) is generally a remnant of Tachio(太刀緒).
Together with Kurikata(栗形), it also prevents the scabbard(Saya 鞘) from falling off the obi when the sword is pulled out.
It can also be used when a string is needed, such as a tasuki(襷) or blood stop.
Various other usages have been handed down in Tenshinryu.
