Hello Jackie. I never knew : when someone says : How are you? I can answer : Great, thanks for asking! And also "you've been so helpful" Thank you, Jackie! You are a wonderful teacher! 👍👍
Lol I am just glad I actually got prepared in language before I come to the US five years ago, everything went super smooth because I could communicate without any difficulties, and all I did was listening to English Audio everyday for 30 minutes in the morning when I was doing my daily tasks, although my dad was the one who actually made sure the “play” button was pressed each day, for over 10 years. I got my state issued driver’s license in less than a week when I arrived in the US(the actual test took me two days and two tries in both the driving and writing tests, the traffic laws in the US are different than in China, particularly the yellow divider line, in China you can’t cross that line no matter what, under no circumstances, while in the US you can cross that line if you are driving into or out of a driveway if you need to, so that really is quite different), I bought my first car a few days after that. The key is to listen everyday, no need to understand the actual meaning.
Thanks for your videos, they are very helpful. By the way, I have been living in the US (Tennessee) for over 7 years but sometimes still have difficulties understanding people with strong southern accents. Could you make a video introducing the different accents in the states?
Thanks Jackie! You videos are wonderful for me and my daughter to study American English every day. We always watch your video together at night. Just one thing in this video, we never translated "Asian" into "華僑" or "華裔" but "亞裔". I hope you can correct the subtitle for viewers.
Hi Jackie, this is my first time I watch your channel and I found it very interesting and useful!:) I would like to ask you a question, in my culture as a Chinese we usually tell our kid to say hi to' ge ge, jie jie' when they meet some older kids at the playground, so how should we say the same thing in English? let say if we see an older kid playing and would like my own kid to go up and say some greeting. thank you so much for answering!
You are so welcome! We usually will ask the kids to greet each other by names even if they are older. It’s a bit different from Chinese. Americans are more casual.
Thank you , you are always so helpful. one question, what's the difference between receipt and gift receipt ? why the gift receipt is printed on the bottom of the recipt?
A gift receipt shows proof of purchase but leaves out the amount spent. It can be used to return goods given as a gift. If you have bought someone a present, you can give them the gift receipt in case they don't like it, and then they can take it back to the store and exchange it for something els
Hi Vivian, seems like Brynnie explained it well, the gift receipt is for the person who you gifted the item to. He/she can use that to return the item if needed. Usually, it won't have the credit card info. and price on it.
Is buying firearms considered “shopping”, lol. I bought my first gun in the US couple years ago at a local Cabela’s, although I was on student Visa, I did my homework before buying guns and I learnt that “antique firearms” are exempt from background checks and are legal to own by anyone federally (including felons and aliens, state laws may vary), and the gun I bought was a modern copy of cap and ball revolver, and because it does not use fixed ammunition, it is considered “antique”. The whole process took me less than five minutes, the associate checked carded me to verify that I was over 18 years of age, same way as buying alcohol and cigarettes, but did not record my name or anything. I guess this is kind of a legal loophole that no criminal’s have exploited on a large scale, and thus it was never amended since it was first legislated in 1934(gun control act) and 1986 (national firearms act). In case you are wondering whether the gun I bought was a toy, you can take a look at this video, you be the judge ru-vid.combbWJ35lmNPw?feature=share
May I ask : 1. What is the difference between credit card and debit card ? 2. Is the price printed on the gift receipt? Usually we don't want our friend to
I understand the conversation about 90 percent but sadly the cashier worker in real life is not speak clearly likes her. 我已經不年輕,之前一直太懶散,加上女友一直放任不糾正說反正她懂我,但一出外就很不行因為都不是我認識的人。
