Note: this theory came to me while i was halfway through the drama so around ep 15 to ep 19 so it wasn't fully developed. Before I found out that it was the captain who traveled to the present (2015) with grace, I thought the prince was the one who traveled back to the present with her but instead of going to 2015, he somehow traveled back a few years before her (so maybe 2013-14 or earlier) and became the Bandit. That's why when her jerk boyfriend ask why Ruco snitched on him, he said he likes her before knocking him out. Ruco likes her because he and Grace got together in the 1800s but because he traveled back to a time where she doesn't know him yet and he doesn't know anything about the future and due to their separation, he somehow became the Bandit. But when he encounter her in the alley as she was chasing one of the kidnapper, he was about to shoot her until he saw who she was. And not only that but multiple times he tried not to shoot her. He loves her so he doesn't want to hurt her and he's trying to protect her from that jerk boyfriend of her's. He only shot her because she told him about the coin saving her life. He purposely led her to the water so she can travel back and put their love story into place. Sadly, none of these came true :(
