Dr. Gavin Chiu Sin-hin was elected as an Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in 2024. In 2018, he received the First-Class Award for Outstanding Works in Chinese Economic Thought History. He has taught at Bryant University in the United States, Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai College, Shenzhen University, Hong Kong Shue Yan University, and the Institute of Modern History at Academia Sinica in Taiwan. He has held positions as a visiting professor, associate professor, assistant professor, and senior visiting scholar. Currently, he serves as a researcher at the Center for Taiwan and Hong Kong Studies at National Sun Yat-sen University (part-time).

I would like to clarify a few points here. 1) Singapore is NOT part of East Asia region. Singapore is located in South-East Asia region and it is part of ASEAN. Hong Kong SAR is NOT part of ASEAN. On the other hand, Hong Kong SAR is located in East Asia, along with Korea, Japan and Taiwan. There is huge difference between South-East Asia and East Asia. This is basic geography. 2) Singapore is an independent South-East Asia sovereign nation/country. It's NOT part of PRC China and will never be. As for Hong Kong, it has been a special administrative region of PRC China since 1997. Hong Hong SAR is a city, not a city state. So it is pointless for Hong Kong to keep on comparing with Singapore. They are not in the same region. Singapore (South-East Asia country), Hong Kong SAR PRC (East Asia city). 3) Last but not least, I have to make this clear enough for those ignorant people out there. Singapore is NOT a Chinese country. I am not referring to race or ethnicity here. I am saying that Singapore is not and has never been a Chinese territory. To those people who are unaware, the indigenous people of Singapore are Malays and most of them came from Malay Archipelago (Java, Sumatra, etc.). To preserve the indigenous heritage, the Constitution of Singapore states that the national language is Melayu (de jure). I repeat, it's Melayu. Not Chinese. And the main/de facto language of Singapore is English (first language).

Uber ,是以 [专有会员制] 的 [汽车载客服务公司] 形式去经营的。像私人出租汽车公司,只提供服务给会员一样。其实,只要有关的汽车,是达政府的安全要求,而司机又是持合法牌照,汽车必要买了有关的载客及意外保险,那样,应该就可以合法做生意了。像香港半岛酒店,可以为住店客人、餐厅客人,提供 [劳丝莱丝豪华汽车] 及司机驾使、接送服务一样,根本上,是没有什分别的。而且,使用Uber前,客人必先要登记成为 [会员],并同意要遵守有关会员规则,才可呼叫 Uber,而不用叫那些收费不稳定、很多司机态度,没达水准的香港的士。

新加坡大多數的士司機係同的士公司租車,而呢啲公司背後嘅大股東係政府淡馬鍚基金,而私人擁有的士牌照(黃頂黑車身果種)只係一個好似leasehold擁有權,持有人75歲時會被自種收回,而且是不能轉讓,所以新加坡搞grab比香港阻力細好多

14:50 白牌車的由來,我依稀記得,當年展示汽車號碼的車牌,大致分三隻顏色 白色 紅色 同黑色,黑色是貨車,紅色是載客車,而白色係私家車,用私家車載客取酬, 所以叫白牌車。

基建起就容易, 好似大6咁din.....30年後要維修就大問題囉, 到時又見周圍難尾高鐵站. 大6高鐵全係政府嘅, 幾千幾千公里, 為面子亂咁起高鐵, 除咗幾個大站, 將來地方政府好難攞到$$出呢維持😅😅 美國機場私有性質, 政府唔使俾$$維修

阿拉斯加機場主要係亞洲去美洲貨機入油 所以貨運好勁, 比如說 香港貨機去墨西哥 入一半油去到阿拉斯加入油, 再飛落去 就可以裝最多貨。去阿拉斯加入油一來平 二來佢個機場唔繁忙又夠大 可以容納大量貨機升降, 唔駛同客機爭 。

所以uber已經一早講咗自己保,佢有張global coverage既單。當然,你都可以拗香港唔承認,咁就返返去趙博所講既嘢喇。 另外,英國商用時所買嘅保險,例如Amazon ,佢自己都有做,淨係開車送貨先收錢都有!所以進步與否,比較下就知

@@MDLP 其實我諗重點好簡單,就係政府有無心去做,Uber 出現時係新野,全宇宙都未見過,香港遇到既問題美國,英國,新加坡都会有,呢樣野可以政府同業界洽談商議點搞,香港咁多保險公司,其實都係生意嚟,大不了亦都可以好似保障基金咁,政府做包底開始,直到個pool夠大。其實好多解決方法,只係個政府想唔想做

我不是的士司機也不是的士牌主,一個廠佬退休回港想揸uber,但接觸過uber後,覺得做司機不是100%合法的。今天政府能包容,不是司機冇犯法。就如今天新界村屋,100間有99間潛建,包容犯法冇處理,無為而已。

香港大部份旅客都是從陸路到來,佢哋多數有節儉美德,體驗流浪漢生活居多,真係難能可貴! 還有第三條跑道已經不需要爭議了,已經聽取環保人仕的建議. 至於的士有好多人在職,所以佢哋固有利益會堅持比較耐...

杜拜不會是最靚機場吧。。。但係就大同豪華感重,但靚。。。還好吧。新加坡厲害的點係其實本身個國家無乜野睇/做,所以整到成個國家d旅遊點好似主題公園咁,所以旅客 first impression 會感覺好好。離開果d人造景點後其實無乜野睇/做,離開Marina Bay Sand之後其他mall都非常一般,本人住新加坡🙃

高鐵,新幹線是上個時代的產物,那個時代機票係好貴,所以係長途巴士同飛機之間,高速的鐵路就是中間的產物。但現在有廉航,高鐵票價基本上係fixed ,但飛機就平到一兩百都有,所以實際上高速鐵路唔夠人爭。例如東京去大阪,nightbus 2500円,新幹線14000円,我次次都一定係night bus。英國國土細,其實高鐵真係無必要

廉航喺歐美一早就有. 正如你所說,十分之廉價. 如果美國強行興建高鐵,只會虧損倒閉. 中國情況特別一點,中國境內空域開放度底,搭飛機延誤厲害。 高鐵生存空間多一點,但長遠政府補貼也是無底深潭

你咁講以後唔使去考車牌啦,因為都無人車駕駛囉,只要有錢買架無人車唔需要你有司機牌都可以啦!你講安全是假設沒有無人車發生事故亦沒有發生演算問題也沒有人亂過馬路。咁人類真係要早唞囉。

日後的揸車考車牌,就好似而家喺英國咁仍然有人會騎馬一樣道理,至於目前喺美國同大陸行走緊嘅無人駕駛的士,交通意外率比起真人司機低85%,係因為無人駕駛的士本身有數十個鏡頭,比真人司機更加安全

You can put regulation saying unmanned taxi must have a taxi license. So Alibaba or those big tech must buy the Taxi License from current taxi license holders and give an exit. Uber is a type of cheating the system and having their liability carried by regular tax payers. Taxi needs to get license, their drivers have to go through background checks, their cars need to pay special insurance to cover higher risk of liability (than normal passenger vehicle) in case of accident and taxi drivers are suppose to be professionals when it comes to defensive driving. Uber drivers avoid all the legal regulations and then cheated the car insurance companies by using their personal vehicle as a taxi. Their accident rate would increase because they are using the car much more frequently on the road than a normal non-business driver. Who pays for these Uber driver accidents? Everyone else who are non-uber drivers that pay normal non-business driver insurance rate.

You are absolutely wrong. Singapore banned UBER, and also banned GRAB. BRAB also had difficulty operaing in Malaysia. The reasoss given by the Singapore Government include protection of the taxi industry. One day, Singapore reversed the decision suddenly, when the son of LLee Hsien Loong was made the director and a shareholder of GRAB. The same thing happened in Malaysia. Note that Lee Hsin Loong and Najib Ali were thick as thives. But it is not freedom as you said in almost every Common Law country. UBER IS STILL BANNED in Singapore. So what is the big deal about being Common Law country if the family running the country has nothing common about them and nothing to do with commoners? Is this improvement? Is ths government's duty to improve businesses? I had a frail old lady begging me to help her book a GRAB car because there were no taxis willing to pick her up, and she could not speak English nor operate a smart phone. All the taxis will drive past people nowadays even though they are emtpty without passenger, because they are just waiting for a GRAB call which pays them more. That frail old lady had a bent back, and she was deperate standing in the hot sun for more than an hour. Have you considered what was it like for her to grow old in a place that decides on using technology too new for her? A government's job is to serve the weakest and more ignorant person in society, he uses case, he does not speak every language, and he has no smart phone, computer or tablet, but this person needs to be served. The government has no duty to progress, no, not such duty, But a government has every duty to maintaain a way of life, and in most areas is the slowest to progress because public money is not to be spent for the newest facility, but for the least of all people im the country to be served. A scratch on a rented HERTZ car will make you pay for that car at public market price. But GRAB is outside the purview of labour law.
