中華人民共和國國歌中华人民共和国国歌义勇军进行曲義勇軍進行曲 March of the Volunteers 行政長官曾蔭權今日（七月十五日）為「香港特區政府紀律部隊大會操」主禮，慶祝香港回歸十周年。　　大會操由保安局聯同香港警務處、香港消防處、香港海關、入境事務處、懲教署、民眾安全服務隊、醫療輔助隊和政府飛行服務隊舉辦。　　大會操上，香港警務處、香港消防處、香港海關、入境事務處和懲教署五個紀律部隊首次聯合進行無口令步操。　　180名來自五個紀律部隊的人員在沒有指揮官喊口令的情況下，隨鼓聲進行步操。香港警務處、香港海關和懲教署人員更表演步槍步操。　　其他節目還包括香港海關緝毒犬示範、青少年團體功夫、雨傘舞、單車花式表演、搭臺表演和樂隊大合奏。流行歌星亦有演出。　　參與演出的青少年團體包括民眾安全服務隊少年團、香港少年領袖團、香港交通安全隊、香港童軍總會、香港基督少年軍、香港聖約翰救傷隊少年團和香港女童軍總會。　　其他出席官員包括保安局局長李少光、警務處處長鄧竟成、入境事務處處長黎棟國、海關關長袁銘輝、署理消防處處長盧振雄、懲教署署長郭亮明、政府飛行服務隊總監畢耀明、民眾安全服務隊處長梁乃鵬博士和醫療輔助隊總參事陳耀榮博士。 The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, today (July 15) officiated at a Grand Parade of Disciplined Services for the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The event was organised by the Security Bureau in conjunction with the Hong Kong Police Force, Fire Services Department, Customs and Excise Department, Immigration Department, Correctional Services Department, Civil Aid Service, Auxiliary Medical Service and Government Flying Service. For the first time, five disciplined services - Hong Kong Police Force, Fire Services Department, Customs and Excise Department, Immigration Department and Correctional Services Department - jointly performed a silent drill. 180 officers from the five disciplined services performed the foot drill under drum beat without vocal command. Going along was a rifle drill performed by officers from the Hong Kong Police Force, Hong Kong Customs and Correctional Services Department. Other highlights including demonstrations by Customs drug detector dogs, kung fu, umbrella dance, artistic cycling, tower building, band music and performance by pop singers added to the joy of the event. Participating youth uniformed groups included Civil Aid Service Cadet Corps; Hong Kong Adventure Corps; Hong Kong Road Safety Association; Scouts Association of Hong Kong; the Boy's Brigade, Hong Kong; the Cadet Command of Hong Kong St. John Ambulance, and the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association. Also attending the event were the Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose SK Lee;　Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing; Director of Immigration, Mr Lai Tung-kwok; Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Mr Richard Yuen Ming-fai; Acting Director of Fire Services, Mr Lo Chun-hung; Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Kwok Leung-ming; Controller of Government Flying Service, Captain Brian Butt Yiu-ming; Commissioner of Civil Aid Service, Dr Norman Leung Nai-pang and Chief Staff Officer of Auxiliary Medical Service, Dr Chan Yiu-wing.

ho s You're right. Standards have dropped ever since "The Great Chinese Takeaway" of 1997. It is a shame to see how Hong Kong seems to have lost its identity.

Hong Kong have their own history and tradition... I feel great that Hong Kong use British-styled drill, same as PLA use Soviet drill, taiwan use American drill, what's the problem?

But I think the problem of their drill is beyond that. You see their drill's togetherness and bluntness which you'd expect from a typical HK government uniformed force, but somehow they lack that gracefulness, sharpness, assertive cadence and rthymatic swing in their march as you'd see in the Foot Guards and the Queen's Colour Sqn RAF Regt. It's also odd the way they wear they chin straps beneath their chins instead of being at the tip of the chin as it's supposed to be.

British or PLA drill aside, I wish they hadn't call out that "two-three" timing so loud in a public performance like this as if they were still a bunch of recruits learning drill. They are professionals and they should have done without that. I'm also not so sure about those white ceremonial gloves with short sleeve order uniform. Looks odd. Some contingents have gloves some don't as if they have no coordination among the departments.

However, it is completely undeniable that, PLA drill have been developed base on Russian drill protocol.... Taiwan is never conquered by the USA. Due to the American-friendly history, they developed their drill style based on American drill. Hong Kong follow British drill, Macau follow Portuguese drill, Taiwan follow American-style-like drill, Mainland China follow Russian-style-like drill. Learn from adopt different culture with respect, That is the greatest point of Chinese Culture.

Hong Kong uniformed forces drill is a combination of old British Army and modern PLA drill movements (flag raising and lowering). They aren't pure British Army drill just like PLA drill isn't pure Soviet drill. To Hong Kong these drill movements are as much a tradition as English co-exist with Chinese as official languages in the city. There are no practical reasons why HK should adopt PLA drill apart from political ass-kissing, which is stupid and unnecessary.

Yeah I agree... what's the problem? The British drill is respected and renowned around the world. After all it's one of the oldest and original drills that helped dozens of other countries to either adopt or develop their own styles. From my point of view, the British drill is what a contemporary force should look like.

不错，挺整齐的。就是幅度那么大，摆双臂和立定跺脚的动作看着挺有喜感的，稍显不够严肃。还有会操干嘛演这么久啊，整得像娱乐节目，还不如拿一般时间演练刺杀操练练威严的杀气！

Fortunately, they still using British-styled drill. I love it so much. However, I don't like the Chinese music, especially the anthem.

Why though? Madam, I don't know if you actually know it or not, but the anthem wasn't composed by the CCP itself on the 01/10/1949, which was the day the CCP won the Chinese Civil War, it was composed by two nobodies during the WWII. According to what I learned at school two years ago, the anthem was composed at the time during the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, the time when the Japanese started their invasion towards China, and the time when the Second Sino-Japanese War begun. And the two Chinese made this in prison, and at first, it was a theme song of the movie 「兒女風雲」，telling the Chinese not to give up and stand against the Japanese military back then. When the background story of the anthem is like that, even a politically neutral person like me, got to say, no matter what your political views are, no matter how you hate the PRC under the rule of CCP, whether you are patriotic or not, you still got to respect the anthem. After all, it's not a song that brainwashes people about how 'almighty' the CCP is, it was a mark of the history. Not only that, the anthem also has something within it. The anthem, stores the souls of the brave who fought bravely during 1931-1945.

Uh... no way. PLA drill=Soviet drills. Unless you're a fan of PLA drills. The HK Police is deeply rooted in the British tradition and style so at least you've got to be realistic and about it. After all they were started by the British.

That might be the case, but still not an excuse in my opinion because they are professionals, this is only a 3-part movement as well as the fact that this is such a publicized performance. I'm also under the impression that these aren't just the average street cops but cadets in training, their instructors and people who perform public duties everyday. So it wasn't like they haven't touched the parade ground for ages. You can't just pull cops off the street and do choreography like this.

Regardless of how you feel about the Handover, the marches played by the police band sucks, compared to days of yore. PLA/patriotic marches sound like shit. I can't help but to laugh at the idea of commanding the General Salute in English, followed by the Chinese national anthem. Would never happen in the Mainland. Only in HK!

I think the problem with the two-three louding timing is because they lack a drill-dedicated school that is up to standards of that of the the british army. They need to count in order to maintain accurately their often-rare display of drills this large capacity.

You're too nationalistic and have too much pride in yourself I'm afraid. And how am I "brainwashed"? No one is brainwashed unless you yourself have been brainwashed to think that other people should be in line with your way of thinking. Be realistic my friend! :) The Hong Kong Police is respected throughout the world and we should be proud of what they are and what they have done and are continuing to do. And please admit that the PLA drill is at least based off the Soviet drill. That's fact :)

The PLA does NOT use Russian drill, the PLA's drill is unique and unlike the Russian or North Koreans, I should know I teach military drill ! Only conquered nations use drill of it conquerors like India, Pakistan, Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines !

For the same token, the USSR has ceased to exist and Russia is no longer an advising nation to the PRC, so why is the PLA still using the old Soviet style army drill?
