高麗卓後炭点前 Nochizumitemae, Koraijoku Omotesenke-ryu [表千家流] tea class 2020-9-26

Omotesenke-ryu [表千家流] tea class [virus tea] September 26, 2020. For our students we are videoing our class so they can have some tea experience during the emergency. Since there is just the two of us there are some limitations on what we can do.
This video shows the charcoal procedure between thick and thin tea when using a Koraijoku with the furo.
This is a very old style of shelf. The name comes from an old way to say Korea and was devised by Rikyu’s brother in law. The version we are using was originated by one of Joshinsai’s students. This is one of the larger “small” tana. In practice it is used similarly to the Yohodana.
As we usually do, we practice sumitemae without a real fire. Due to expense and availability, we save the good charcoal for chaji and use “Narazumi” for practice.
