"Red lights" is about traffic light, "Drive" is about driving, "connected" is about wifi and "taste" is definitely about food 😇

Seeing people react to this song never gets old 😂 i love this song and their voices blend so well together! Jinnie's singing voice is so underrated and Chan always lets his members shine instead of himself. The song is about obsessions (for them, their work) and Hyunjin wrote the korean lyrics (and Chan translated to english) and he said that this is the TONED DOWN version?? Hyunjin knows he killed us with this 😂 Skz actually did a series called Howl in Harmony where each pair/group developed and talked about the unit songs and even some bts for the mvs. Well worth checking out!! While we wait for the première, let's get a little bit of background for all the babySTAYs around! Stray Kids did a 5 episodes series called songcamp: Howl in Harmony. They split up their usual units (3racha, danceracha, vocalracha) and mixed up to make new ones, and create 3 new songs all from start to finish, including the MV. The three first episodes are each dedicated to one team/song Episode 1 is team Gone Away (Han, Seungmin, I.N.), episode 2 is team Surfin' (Changbin, Lee Know, Felix), and episode 3 is team Red Lights. Episode 4 is a group talk: each team sharing their WIP audio with the others, discussing their MV ideas, and presenting them to the video directors. Episode 5 is the actual filming of the 3 MVs. The real (?) meaning of the Red Lights lyrics is detailed in episode 3, during their brainstorming process (but I have lost faith in Bang Chan and Div 1, this could be either genuine, which I hope, or totally scripted, we will never know). It's (apparently) about compulsion (that's the meaning of the korean title), about being addicted to work, perfection, or whatever else that takes control of your reason and pushes you too far but you can't resist it. I recommend watching the series, but if you want to react to the other unit songs, I suggest you watch the Gone Away and Surfin' MVs first, then watch the full series, it's very interesting.

Okay, now we're done with red lights, let's go one level up. How about Taste by Danceracha(Lee Know, Hyunjin, Felix)? I don't want to spoil, but it has kinda similar vibe with red lights, but it feels like they forgot to use metaphor filters 🙃 There is no m/v, but you can find the performance and then check the lyrics. I just can't recover from contrast of Lee Know and Felix's voices, it's too good! Also, this song mostly written by Hyunjin, but Lee Know and Felix added a few details, so all of them considered writers for this song! I hope you'll like it!

Both are the biggest workaholics of the group and put a lot of effort into group activities (for example, Chan does the most music, and Hyunjin dances, helping the group prepare for performances). The lyrics of the song can be interpreted in different ways, Hyunjin's lyrics are always extremely multi-layered and based on wordplay. You can also listen to Taste by a dance unit whose main author is Hyunjin (LeeKnow and Felix added details to the song that Hyunjin spent a month writing based on a sample from Chan). And most importantly, you need to see Hyunjin's dances - Play with fire, When the party is over, AOTM.

No, this isn't a continuation of any other song or story. SKZ often breaks up into various units/mini-groups to create songs. In the case of this album (NOEASY), Han/Seungmin/I.N made a gorgeous ballad called "Gone Away," Lee Know/Changbin/Felix made a fun summer bop called "Surfin'," and Chris/Hyunjin made "Red Lights." All three unit songs are completely standalone. The sensual/s3xualized imagery is a metaphor. Just as Chris and Lee Know's "Drive" uses driving as a metaphor for s3x, "Red Lights" uses s3x as a metaphor for obsession/compulsion (which is basically what the Korean title translates to). While they left the lyrics open to interpretation so people can relate to the song on their own wavelength, we watched ChanJin during the creation of this song. The actual meaning, first and foremost, is rooted in their well-known tendency to overwork, to drain themselves in overinvestment in their jobs and go without sleep in favor of working all night. There are a couple hints in the lyrics, like the reference to "set the mic up" and "I'm staying up all night." Red lights are presumably the lights on studio equipment. This song was inspired by both Chris's and Hyunjin's tendency to be obsessive about their work, often to the point of harm. Chris and Hyunjin are portraying two sides of the same person or two entities within one being (as Hyunjin referred to it, it's kind of a Venom [the character, not the SKZ song] idea). One (Chris, who starts out looking fairly orderly, with mostly yellow lighting) is the "normal" one, the one fighting against being controlled by his obsession. The other (Hyunjin, who pretty much always has red lighting and is given a more wild and disorderly presentation) is the obsession or obsessed side, fighting to be free of restraint, taunting the controlled side with reminders along the lines of "tell me you hate me, but I know you can't live without me." Notice how much of their movement is mirroring. You asked about the director, so: The director is NOVKIMM (who directed all three of the unit tracks on this album). I mentioned in an earlier comment section that he's my favorite SKZ director and does a ton of their b-sides and one-off releases (for things like SKZ-PLAYER). He's an openly gay director in notoriously conservative Korea, and he brings some of that perspective to his work. He doesn't make a secret of his knowledge of the bdsm scene, and that shows in this video, of course. But he's also just incredibly diverse and flexible (if you watch just these three unit song MVs, you'll see how wildly different they are). Sometimes he brings out in MVs subtle hints of the othering so many queer people experience ("DLC" and its shades of Billy Elliot, for example). Other times, he dives into the kind of camp most straight and closeted directors wouldn't touch ("Up All Night," the deliberately cringey cheese fests of "Your Eyes" and "There," etc). Anyway, openly gay director who, yes, knew _exactly_ what he was doing with this video. And as both a queer person and a person with OCD, this MV means so, so much to me -- and not for thirst reasons, but because of what it's _really_ talking about.

There's no official MV for it but there is an UNVEIL and live performances. Other or his (solo) songs are "ice.cream" and "Contradicting".
