All the info indicates that their contracts were terminated by their agency so it sounds like they never got a choice in the matter.

They quit because they cherish friendship more than anything else. If my guess is not wrong, the agency did not want to renew Sowon's (the tallest member and also leader) contract. So the rest of them decided to call it quits with Source Music which is bought over by Hybe (parent company of BIG Ent who manages BTS). It's pretty dumb the company did that which they assume they will abandon their leader for their own career. It's a big gamble on the girls but I think it paid off as all of them have been scoop up by other agencies. I think Sowon wanted to go into acting but still maintaining with GFriend. Anyway, they are not new to entertainment industry and they are still young (average age 23). They should be able to manage their own careers respectively. Yuju (the main vocal of GFriend) already have a mini album which was out in Jan 2022 and I believe she has more to offer in the coming months. She not only sings well but she can compose and write songs! All of them won't starve as each of their own personal net worth is about USD$1M to $3M! The only sad thing about this even if they reunited, they can't use GFriend's name and sing any of GFriend's songs as Source Music deliberately bought all the copyrights weeks before this incident happened.
