On the first year of Mamamoo they didn't have many fans but in one event fans prepared slogans to hold, it said 'Never Letting Go'. That moment every girl cried, they never expected people to love and care about them so much. They are still very humble and have no idea how big their fanbase is. Anyways Solar originally took the catchphrase 'Never Letting Go' that fans came up with and made verses to the song, then Moonbyul wrote her rap part, after her Hwasa added a verse. That's how the song came up together and was first presented at this particular concert + special event from their families. Family event has another story. Especially with Solar it was really emotional. Hey, Jen. Background info on this song (you probably already know at least half of this): At the end of 2014, when they were still very new, Mamamoo held a small fanmeeting. The members totally didn't expect it, and they started to cry mid-song. Solar was particularly touched. She thought the fans' outpour of love and unending support was undeserved, and tried to think what she can give back to their fans. It was especially touching because they had such a difficult time to break out. Solar's parents didn't approve of her being stubborn about her singing career even after getting rejected at auditions 40+ times, and wished she'd just quit that foolishness and continue on her original plan of being a flight attendant. Hwasa actually had petitions written against her saying that she's single-handedly making the group ugly and that she should get expulsed. Moonbyul was supposed to have led another four-member group (with Wheein as another member) but that didn't happen - apparently she was the leader for all of a week, before she got kicked out for being too fat (which prompted her to start dieting like a madman). Wheein has her own demons too, a lot of them relating to her family (her biological father is a piece of shit, and she still carries around huge guilt regarding her dead grandmother). So even though they had a hectic schedule where sleep was worth more than gold, Solar stayed up way past bedtime that day, and composed a song - a love song for Moomoos. She asked other members if they thought the fans would like it, and was reassured that we would indeed. I think she posted it online, in text, but I don't know where. Hwasa and Moonbyul added their own contributions to the lyrics in the following year or so and it was made into a proper song. The company made sure the arrangement included some time during the song where they wouldn't be singing, so they could insert messages from the fans. The song is officially called "I love too" in English, but I think most Moomoos just call it by the literal translation from the Korean title: "Never letting go". They sang it to Moomoos on their first independent concert in August of 2016... and what happened there is captured in this official MV. AFAIK they expected fan messages; seeing their parents was a shock. Especially to Solar, since I think it may have been the first time she heard them say they support what she was doing. You might have noticed Hyejin's parents talk about "their daughters"; due to Wheein's home situation, she spent so much time at Hyejin's that her parents basically considered her a part of their family. Also notice Wheein being super professional. You can't tell me that that smile at 8:03 isn't a little bit forced, just on this side of the brink of tears. EVERYTIME 😭😭😭😭 Solar and Wheein hit me the hardest. Solar's the youngest in her family and didn't have her parents blessing to pursue this scary career. I can't even imagine that pressure, hurt and uncertainty on top of suddenly becoming a leader of girls who were equally as scared. Wheein's had a painful upbringing, her family shattered by divorce because her so called father kept putting them in debt, was then raised by her grandmother who became her world but had suddenly passed away during her teenage years. This ripped her up even more because she felt like she didn't take enough care of her. It's so sad that she didn't live long enough to see how far she's come. Wheeins good at hiding her pain, she's so soft but is now slowly learning how to express herself ♥

I always get emotional when I see it. It you noticed well, wheein is the only one not crying here. We don't see her tear up much like the other members. She's has her way to hide her emotional side. I think it's due to all the hardships she went through, from her family side (specially her bio father). She actually was absent in many events this summer because of her anxiety. Wheein definitely keeps her emotions in check a lot but she was the first to cry recently on their Idol Radio episode 😢 I'm glad she's been smiling and laughing so much this comeback. Same for all of them. They deserve to be happy more than anyone

I still remember that first time you reacted to them. With all the names on a paper and pulling their name out. Their first concert and no they didn’t know about the video, that’s why they started crying. The only one who didn’t cry was WheeIn. But poor Solar was the one that cried the most. I also cried (and still cry every time).
"How could they sing after that" - fact is, is that they all had difficulty (except for Whee In, reasons) with Yong (Solar) having the hardest to recompose herself & continue singing. Also, fun/amazing fact is that those Video Messages weren't planned, during that intermission they were going to be playing something else. The VM's from the parents were a secret from RBW themselves, neither MMM nor the MooMoo's in attendance had any idea that those VM's were going to be playing.

It's so emotional for me to watch this, because I remember when I first watched that video I felt exactly the same way, the promise "Never letting go" Is something I took in my heart and this year after 2 years of being a fan I finally got the chance to see them in concert in Japan, and I can't explain it but they were so authentic and sincere, exactly the way I've always seen them on videos, it felt like I've always known them, it's an amazing feeling that I hope you get to experience very soon too.

And you’re right, even if we’re not part of the original Moomoos (I’m only a year old Moo), I feel like I’ve known these ladies for awhile and I’m never letting them go. It was a surprise party during one of their live event where every moomoos there raised a flag that said "Never Letting Go" and that was the first time MAMAMOO ever cried because of us. I love how my baby and ultimate bias WheeIn was the only one who held it together and kept performing for fans. Even better that she kept checking in on the others like a second mama. I think WheeIn has always been the glue that held Mamamoo together.
