This truly makes my skin tingle and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I believe this must be Grace's Finest ever singing performance 💙💙💙 i believe if Arlene Smith the lead singer of the Chantels (the original performers) is looking down on you now, she would be so proud. Long live the 'Barberettes' I'll always love you girls 💙💙💙
This great rendition of "Maybe" really took me by surprise. After "Be My Baby" and "Barbara Ann" I thought the group might move on to hits from, say, The Chiffons or The Marvelettes, stuff in their comfort zone. I never anticipated that they could take such a soulful song as the Chantels' "Maybe"and make it seem fresh and new. What range they have! Can you imagine the Chantels doing "Barbara Ann" or what is downright laughable, The Beach Boys singing "Maybe"? It seems that everything is possible for them, from The Lettermen to James Brown.
David Martin Have you heard them do the Andrews Sisters' Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, and Rum & Coca Cola? I really like their sound when they do the Chordettes' Mr. Sandman.
VermontFan18 But they sound better when they're singing in Korean. If you can stand to listen to music when you can't understand the words, they present an even wider variety of different sounds. 아빠의 청춘 (Father's Youth) 눈이 내리내 (It's Snowing) 불 나비 (Tiger Moth) These three are all adaptations of theme songs from Korean movies that were made in the 1960s or early 1970s. 자정이 훨씬 넘었네 (Way Past Midnight) This is a country western style song that was originally recorded in 1973. The original artist is in the audience, and the camera keeps turning to him, to show how much he's enjoying hearing one of his hit songs reinterpreted by this group.
After watching this video dozens of times, I guess I was so overwhelmed by Grace's performance that I paid little attention to the superb backing vocals of Shinae and Sohee. Absolutely beautiful! And it appears that Shinae has her arm around Sohee the entire song, which to me, just adds to the raw emotion of this performance. Oh how I miss The Barberettes!
The original Barberettes were magical. This song is magical. Thank you for the videos that are out there. They lift my spirit. What is nice is that they are still acquiring new fans!
Same here. I just discovered them a few weeks ago. They became my new favorite group only to find out they are no longer together. What a bummer! Maybe we can hope for a reunion concert sometime?
Maybe, if I pray every night you'll come back to me And maybe, if I cry everyday you'll come back to stay Oh, maybe Maybe, if I hold your hand you will understand And maybe, if I kissed your lip's I'd be at your command Oh, maybe I've prayed and prayed to the Lord to send you back, my love But instead you came back to me only in my dreams Maybe, if I pray every night you'll come back to me And maybe, if I cry everyday you'll come back to stay Oh, maybe maybe maybe Maybe maybe.... 은혜님 너무 좋아요~
The lyrics you have are the original ones as sung by the Chantels. The Barberettes sing the words differently, and I think, better. They sing... Maybe, if I cry everyday, you'll come back to me And maybe, if I pray every night, you'll come back to stay Oh, maybe Maybe, if I hold your hand you will understand And maybe, if I kissed your lips I'd be at your command Oh, maybe I've prayed and prayed to the Lord to send you back, my love But instead you came to me, only in my dreams Maybe, if I cry everyday, you'll come back to me And maybe, if I pray every night, you'll come back to stay Oh, maybe The emotion is without a doubt, astounding.
Love all three... but my favorite is Grace... Love how she really gets into the song... she looks as if she's in another world of her own when she sings... love it...
check out their Hollywood Bowl performance...Sohee was smokin' hot , especially when she did her strong number "Be My Baby"...Shinae does have her cuteness...but from early videos you see a progression from cute - to sexy on Sohee...(just sayin') ^/^
What a fantastic performance! I remember when I heard you sing it at your North American debut in Toronto, Canada and it was as magical then too. So loving The Barberettes! 🎤❤️👏
Every now and again, someone will put on a performance that is truly SPECIAL. Grace Kim and the other two Barberettes did it with that performance of "Maybe". WOW!!!
Revisiting after a long hiatus from listening to the 'rettes. Grace sings this with such heart, doesn't she? I would def go see her whether she's singing jazz, pop or beer commercials.
WOW i do a radio show where i play 50's doo wop and play this song very often by the chantells this group did an outstanding job it is the best cover i have ever heard hands down
Good gracious !! Talk about beautiful voices !! And of course, beautiful ladies !!! I just discovered this group a few weeks ago and found that they have been around more than 9 years. I have been missing out !! Such beautiful harmonies these ladies have !!!
And if I might add, when they sing English Language songs, you would never know that English is NOT their first language, which makes it even more amazing!
I have lost count how many times i have watched this video . the song was written 60 some years ago. she sings it with so much passion you would think that is her words of how she feels at the time . she really wants her guy to come back just maybe he will
I reeeally liked this song before. Now I reeeally love it - REEEALY LOVE IT!! How can I not fall in love. Absolutely stunning! Have it on replay and can't take it off. Seattle Washington USA
Grace has a strong voice...which I miss....recently(in the last 18 months) they got a new girl, (SunnieLee)...she too is cute, but does not possess a strong lead voice....especially in fast numbers like "Kookerichu" or "Just Past Midnight" (the country tune with a fiddle player)...I hope that Sunnie will grow into the songs...Grace left her mark on many of them.
This is a lovely version and these ladies did a great job. Despite that, the Chantels own this song. I can only wonder how many millions of broken hearted lovers wept their souls out in tears that could have filled buckets. This song has moved me to tears for 32 years. Some wounds, you see, never heal.
The more I see of these girls the more impressed I am. The lead singers' breathy rendition of this song is beaut. I think The Chantels would be happy that the girls did their song justice.
from The Chantels, Shangri-Las, and even Janis Joplin. But hey, THEY DID GREAT with this song! This was my first time like for Korean singer anyway :))
The Barberettes were sitting down in the radio show performance. It is easier to breathe when standing. When one breathes better he/she will sing better.
I will never forget the original BARBERETTES, they were simply fantastic, I still listen too them, I love all three of them, how in the world did she hit those high notes? not all that sing are able to do that, she is so talented~USA
I think that she is singing with "Winterplay" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qGEiWQ6-kEc.html She also did some great songs with "The new trio" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r7Eg4Dt70JQ.html
