I think you got a little confused. The trainees don't get paid $100,000, that's just how much the agency spends per trainee (in Treasure A) per year, on all the housing, food transportation & lessons they mentioned. The good thing about YG is that the trainees are not responsible for paying the company back for that. So they don't really start with debt like some other trainees/ rookies.

YG had to be brutal because the K Media and K Netizens are brutal. It prepares them for what’s to come if they really wanted to be an artist, especially after what happened in 2019. YG has always been the villain in the Kpop Industry. They will always use the company and the artists to bury something in the government or in other more powerful companies. This is because YG does not follow the trend so much, they want to create the trend. They may have prioritized looks for TREASURE but they had to go through several layers of auditions. They just gave TREASURE B a try if they can get some jewels from it. That is what they call diversity

YG has its own budget for its trainee and the good thing is they don't have debt after debut. Artist are payed immediately once they debut. Even those who did not make it don't have to pay. Treasure A, B, C are just categories. A mostly 3years up in training, B are basically months to year in training while C are the youngest most are underage. YG categorized them to be able to give them the training that they needed. YG pays good to his artist they have 70/30 distribution. 70% artist 30% company. That's why as you can notice YG artist are rich. And YG has all the facilities to hone and train their artist even after debut they continue to enhance and developed their talents. And not all of team B were scouted some of them auditioned on their own. And YG said he wants looks but it doesnt mean he just base his decision on that he still prioritize skills and talent. Plus they have a choice if they want to join or not. YG lay out their plan and contract to them not just sign them as trainee immediately. Plus YG said that he is brutal bcoz he said the industry is much worse than him if they can't handle him how can they handle the mefia, toxic fans and the sharks in the industry. It's his way to toughen and motivate. And look at his artists they're one of the best in the industry.

Here’s the reason why entertainment companies going for street casting. Because the talented people come and participate willingly the auditions themselves. Also there are others who can develop the ability through practice. But they don't know that and they also don’t have any interest of becoming idols. So they don't participate in auditions. Streeting is done for finding such people. Alsso every kpop group has a visual position. That’s another reason for street casting.
