really he is not an idol literally he is people's idol but koreans use the word idol as groups who dance and put on a lot of makeup and they do performance more than singing . Nobody in korea thinks dean as an idol.Koreans calls him r&b hiphop artist. sorry for my poor grammer lol

+Ed XO he has been carrying that style before Zayn. So you might mean Zayn sound like him. In my opinion Dean's style is like a mixture of Bryson Tiller and Frank Ocean. That's just my opinio tho.

hes not korean-american. He said in a facebook live chat or something here on youtube that he is born and raised in Seoul. He felt nervous being in America trying to talk english, and he said prefers to speak Korean :D So many international fans though, hes bound to improve his english!!
