Changgyeonggung is a palace built to the east of Changdeokgung in 1483 by King Seongjong, the ninth king of the Joseon Dynasty.
In 1418 when King Sejong ascended the throne,
Sugang Palace was built for King Taejong.
King Seongjong expanded and supplemented Suganggung Palace as a space for the preparation of three people because Changdeokgung Palace was cramped
During construction, it was named Changgyeonggung Palace. Changgyeonggung was not used in the early days of its foundation.
There were not many of them, but after the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592, Changdeokgung Palace served as the main palace and became a secondary palace.
The frequency of use has increased.
The Changgyeonggung Palace have changed due to restoration, fire, and damage.
The first is the time when a detached palace was built by expanding the site of the old Sugang Palace to serve the three queens during the reign of King Seongjong.
With Myeongjeongjeon as the main hall, Munjeongjeon is the main hall, Suyeongjeon and Hwangyeongjeon, Gyeongchunjeon, Inyangjeon, Tongmyeongjeon,
Yanghwadang, Yeohwidang, and Saseonggak were built during this period.
The second is the first period of heavy construction that started after the Imjin War and was made during the reign of King Gwanghaegun.
The main halls such as Myeongjeongjeon, Munjeongjeon, Hwangyeongjeon, Salvage Hall, etc.

In the third period, the civil war broke out due to the Injo uprising and the ‘Lee Gwal Rebellion’ that occurred in the 2nd year of King Injo’s reign (1624).
Most of them were rebuilt from the 11th year of King Injo’s reign (1633).
The fourth period is from the time when most of the civil war was destroyed due to the great fire that occurred in the 30th year of King Sunjo (1830).
In the 34th year of King Sunjo's reign (1834), Changgyeonggung Palace was extensively renovated.
Fifth, during the Japanese colonial period, many of the palace halls were demolished or damaged and transformed by the Japanese.
From 1907, most of the buildings in Changgyeonggung Palace were demolished and a zoo and botanical garden were installed and opened to the public.
In 1911, even the name was downgraded to Changgyeongwon. In addition, a road was opened in the part connected to Jongmyo, broke the pulse The zoo has been relocated since 1983, and efforts to restore the original palace are still ongoing.
Although many palaces have not been restored yet, the scent of royal life can be seen in the appearance of Changgyeonggung Palace in harmony with the beautiful nature.

Changgyeonggung is the birthplace of many kings, including Jangjo, Jeongjo, Sunjo, and Heonjong.
It has been preserved, and along with Changdeokgung Palace next door, it is an indispensable and important relic for examining the history of the palaces of the Joseon Dynasty.
