Train with me on my app doing my actual weekly program | 7-Day Free Trial | $8.99/mo 📲 www.myliftfitness.com/training-app IMPORTANT INFO➡️ May notice my grip shifts in the vid when I'm holding the empty bar - pay no mind. The correct internally rotated grip is actually easier to do w a lil weight on the bar (and with wrist wraps) It helps press the bar down into that groove at the base of your palm ✋🏼 Just keep this in mind when you're trying it for the 1st time. It may not feel as balanced with an empty bar/super light weight

Train with me on my app doing my actual weekly program | 7-Day Free Trial | $8.99/mo 📲 www.myliftfitness.com/training-app IMPORTANT INFO➡️ Here are 4 Other things to know 1️⃣ Breathing: Before lowering the bar, INHALE & hold your breath (flexing your core tightly “bracing”) EXHALE as you near the top 1/2 - 1/3rd of the repetition. 2️⃣ Watching the Bar - Don’t do it. Instead, right before you lower, look at where the bar is in relation to the ceiling. Fix your eyes on that spot. When you press the weight back up - press it back to that spot on the ceiling you’ve been staring at. This can be magic for your rep consistency 🪄 3️⃣ Touching the Chest: The location of where the bar makes contact can vary between people. It should be below your shoulders. For Example, for some it may make contact at mid-sternum - Others, at the base of the sternum (the v-shape where the ribs meet) etc. 4️⃣ A Good Cue: After un-racking the bar (before you lower) think about trying to “bend the bar” - This can help maintain the tension in your back Hope this helps, ~ Davis #BenchPressTips

That last tip about holding your shoulders down but allowing them to still move is crucial. If you don’t do this you will start to develop shoulder pain in your bench. If you allow them to move freely you will feel your serratus and lats engage more and will feel much stronger. If you need help engaging these muscles I recommend doing some lighter face pulls before your lifts to engage the lower traps and also some push up pluses (or just the top part where you don’t bend your elbows and just push your shoulders) in order to engage your serratus.

Yes, that's also acceptable. Videos like these are overkill for the average bench presser. You're still going to activate and work your chest even if your wrist is not at a specific angle or if your back is not arched. Videos like these are why "yOuRe KiLliNg YoUr GaInS" videos exist. Everyone is an expert. They like to suck the fun out of lifting by nitpicking the dumbest shit like how your bench is plateauing because your arms are at an 89-degree angle and not 90. Just because you don't care to bench or lift with absolute precise form which hardly anyone does, doesn't mean you're hindering your gains. People sway when they do bicep curls, people don't go ass-to-grass on squat, and not everyone bench presses like they need an exorcist. Don't ego lift and you'll be fine.

Its crazy what texhnique can do. I worked with a coach about 6 weeks ago to teach me how to bench. Im 175 lbs and my max was like 260ish. Some days 270. However, i was dumbell pressing 100s for 12 with quality depth and felt my bench should be higher. The advice and instruction was similar to this and after about a week of practicing with 240 and 250 i worked up to a 1rm and hit 280. Felt like i could have gotten 285 probably not 290 though. It was a bit of a grind

Ok tips. But one big flaw is to be too far away with the barbell (from rack position). Don’t have the bar at eye level, rather more to the lower part of the neck. You don’t want to have that long range of motion from rack to starting position.. hope you understand what I mean… before people start hating on me..I coach within powerlifting and have a 172,5kg benchpress (bodyw 82kg). So I do know quite allot about benching

Omg somebody that actually understands not to keep scapulae retracted during the concentric part of the movement I can’t believe it. We really will get rid of this dated cue the same we got rid of “knees over toes is bad”. I’m thinking by 2026ish the scales will tip to where the majority of bench press guides tell you not to pinch shoulder blades during the whole movement (the reason you don’t want to us because it disturbs scapulohumeral rythm and actually places more stress on the rotator cuff and surrounding muscles)
