Connect it to a 3-speed bicycle for extra-fast rotation during spin cycles for the best water extraction. It could probably be used for all the cycles; lower gears for wash/rinse.

That is amazing! Even looks like you could throw a pulley on the back side and make a rather fast spin cycle on it, too!

+Nicholas R. Eaton (FreeRadical) It's so dry in New Mexico that it's easier to just hang the clothes up and let the air do all the work.

I've watched this quite a few times. Excellent machine! Any idea when you may do the sequel? I'm very interested in seeing more of exactly how it's built. The mechanics of it.

Don used material on hand, so the most basic approach worked well.

very nice I live in new Mexico and theres a lot of low income here but good people that need some thing like this I myself am getting ready to build a solar powered swamp cooler for me and teach others here how to. The two items your washer and my swamp cooler will dramatically reduce every ones light bill im thinking on your washer a small belt drivin gas engine at a low speed would work with a sturdy platform on the front of the wheel barrel.

Real nice. If you put a fan and a solar air heater it will be a washer and dryer. All it needs is more holes in the inner bucket

Brilliant! I could build one of those with relative ease. It would be much easier to use than the steel tubs and Rapid Washer we use currently.

I made mine about 10 yrs ago....Sometimes I sit it on a dolly (the type with wheels) and move it back and forth, while I'm watching tv, to agitate the water 😁

great idea for washing a good amount of clothes, save a little more water by rewashing some other clothes before it gets drained, rinse n spin dry? I would like to make one for our off grid use. we will have solar soon but so far I like this the best!

Or make 2 big holes on the sides. And connect to solar air heater and double as dryer. Just squizer water off clothes before drying

Great idea but but if you will use an old bicycle and run a Sprocket in a chain to eat and the bicycle you will get a better spin cycle to drain the water from your clothes before hanging them to dry

+Joseph Pashka Great. ETA on Video # 2? When you do it, please: 1. Fix the volume. Couldn't hear much on the first one, except a little bit from you. 2. Say whether this device agitates the clothes or just spins them around stuck to the wall of the inner barrel. 3. And answering the questions already posed in the comments section of this video would be a good start. My wish list! ;-) Thanks!

+onesimpleidea We never imagined the response we've received since posting this video. Video #2, the Sequel will have an interview with Don, as well as close-ups of the mechanics of this contraption. As for the inside of the wash cylinder, I don't recall seeing any fins. As for answering posted questions, I try to reply to them when adding new videos.

Joe Stubbernubbensteingenson The water doesn't go that high.
@RollerPigg
@RollerPigg 9 лет назад
makes sense - thanks
@jamesgreg6492
@jamesgreg6492 6 лет назад
Joe Stubbernubbensteingenson. Yes actually. The 55 gallon drum is large enough that the axel is riding above the water line and the inner bucket that holds the clothes only has holes aroind its circumference so as it picks water up and displaces water it will avoid both ends. Now if you wer to try amd fill the drum with water you would surely have it flowing rite out the axel holes. I hope this helps! Happy holidays.

@josephpashka7369

William Labes This was a DIY project Don made using parts on hand. FYI - He mentioned that the key to getting the clothes cleaner is by making them soak in the soap longer. Periodic agitation is all that is required to achieve noteworthy results.

nice but got un idea better to attach a bicycle on it put some gear and way to go double purpose exercise and doing some cycling plus put some ac motor on the bike wheel and attach with AC inverter dc to ac and battery in it and there you go off grid ..free energy..
