Just to clarify, Wyrm is pronounced as "Weerm" and emphasize on the letter Y Wyrm is also a species of dragons (lesser dragons) who is halfway in becoming a true dragon form but halted, causing them to be more like a giant lizard with little wings as a result from their evolution to not able to progress properly maybe because of outside factors They look flat in general, mostly on all fours and crawl, they can fly but since their weight is spread out on their body, they can't lift themselves off the ground

I guess it depends on the region. There is this belief in the east, particularly in korean peninsula (but correct me if I'm wrong), that dragons originated from snakes. In their folklore, the snake apparently can grows wings when they're sufficiently old, which later allows them to fly and complete their transformation into dragon. That's probably why to them dragons are mostly associated with being cold blooded due to their origin. (In pop culture, there is the movie D-war and monster hunter's Dalamadur that uses this version of origin) Chinese and Japanese have this belief that dragons were koi fishes that managed to climb a waterfall. That's why their dragons are often depicted as 'swimming' in the sky instead of fying with wings, as they are originally water dweller. Most of their dragons are also often associated with sea or rain. Down southeast, dragons are also depicted as snake-like being, albeit very large in size. Most are strictly ground-based though.

​@@spearsage The idea of dragon originated from snake (being vague on "originated" here) comes from ancient china civilization. Don't know if the Chinese invented that or adopted that from somewhere else, but from there it got spread to everywhere in (south)east Asia. In those culture, dragon has no wings.

Wyvern: sometimes breathes fire, flies, has only 2 legs and 2 wings, often has a poisonous tail stinger. Usually has animal-level intelligence and cannot speak. Drake: a male duck. In some European languages, "draken" or "drakon" is a word for "dragon", so different shows/games use "drake" to refer to different dragon-related creatures. Dragon: flies, has 4 legs, often (but not always) has human-level intelligence and the ability to talk. Eastern dragons levitate and control elements like lightning and thunder, Western dragons have wings and breathe fire. Salamander: does not fly, is just a big lizard that breathes (and lives in) fire. Based on a real lizard that does not breathe fire (as far as we know).

Basically, back in the early episode where their characters first met, Ame's character said "There is a Wyrm in my pocket", hinting at the curse that was inflicted on her without saying it directly. But Kiara understood it as "Worm" not "Wyrm". And I think Calli didn't notice either. So it ended up being an actual "worm" which was fed to Kiara's bird. All of it was pretty funny funny 😅

I think it depends on the fantasy setting really. In traditional European and Brythonic mythos, hind legs and wings is called a wyvern. Whereas a wyrm can be anything from a snake, to a giant leech like worm. Although, I've seen wyrm interchangeable with dragon or wyvern in some games and IPs. In World of Darkness setting I think it doesn't really have a distinct physical form, but it's symbolism is like a black spiral and is represented by three giant snakes/worms/leech type things and sometimes depicted like a hydra. Although I recall wyrm being interchangeable with "great serpent" in some of the flavour text somewhere!

The term wyrm comes from old germanic dragons, like Nidhogg or Jormungandr, which were long and serpentine as opposed to the winged lizard depiction of dragons. Worm and Wurm were also valid spellings, but today the wyrm spelling is the one that stuck as relating to dragons (with wurm sometimes being used).

@@xdragoonzero0 As a previous reply exposed, I was thinking of wyvern and not wyrm. I'm not sure I've seen 'wyrms' represented in any kind of traditional fantasy setting, so I can't say what it's supposed to be at all, invalidating my comment.
