My family has a farm. I think GPS and technology are pretty great, i accept that someday there are gonna be tractors that dont run on diesel. What i cant do is spend all day in a tractor and not need to get out and fuss with something with the implement. Somethimg caught in the sweeps. Residue building up in the implement. A dead ash tree fallen from the bushline into the field. Even when i dont get out but need to drag out heavy residue on the field and spread it, circling back and dropping in again or lift up over a monster rock thats breaking the surface....no robot will do that. It will send me a message that theres a problem after it drags up a pile of cornstalks the size of a volkswagen pulling it up and down the field till it cant move. Itll rut up the field with that coulter that jammed up because no one is watching and im gonna have to go tend to it anyway.

no way, no how. maybe for a hobby farmer but this won't replace the 9 series tractors that serious farmers are running 16 if not 24 hrs a day during field work seasons.

How much for a new battery? I'm willing to bet it's more economical to buy a new machine. Fact: Batteries drain quicker when under load Fact: Batteries take hours, not minutes, to recharge Fact: Batteries have only so many charge discharge cycles before they need to be replaced Fact: If there's a power outage, the batteries don't charge Fact: Field work needs to be completed quickly as crops need months to grow - Farms don't have time to wait on batteries to charge Fact: Diesel has become cleaner over the years Fact: Diesel fuel tanks can be refilled in minutes Fact: Diesel produces more power Fact: There is no limit to how many times you can refill a diesel fuel tank Fact: Most farmers have a manual pump handy to fill their tanks should the power grid fail

Not practical when you have fields 10+ miles away from home farm. It’s not worth the time to drive it back every night to charge. Also, sometimes weather makes our windows tight and need to run 24/7. Electric doesn’t allow for farmers to do that.

@@oliver69cork46 Interesting you chose a 4 month old post to reply to when there are many others. The grid in the US won’t be able to keep up with the push for all electric, on top of that we have a lot of power still produced by coal plants which in turn have to work more to produce the required energy for electric equipment and vehicles. There will be a large expense to using these new electric pieces of ag equipment in the form of longevity, who wants to buy a tractor that will have half the running time after a decade due to battery degradation.
@oliver69cork46
@oliver69cork46 Год назад
@@dylanhagen6277 chose your post because just wanted an alternative view and you answered well. The grid is one thing but most farmers can install solar panels which would be a sufficient power source. These machines are only in their infancy and will advance like anything in the technological world. Longevity could be very well much more as there's less moving and mechanical parts. Having an electric car,it's extremely efficient and reliable,yes range is problematic. Its powered by solar power on my property and works very well. We are probably a few years off yet but there's always starting points.
@dylanhagen6277
@dylanhagen6277 Год назад
@@oliver69cork46 The way I look at it we are decades away from something remotely reliable. What happens when you have to pull a 16 hour work day and your equipment only has charge for 10? The amount of moving parts isn’t an issue when physically having to pull something or do any other sort of task is physically demanding. On the point of solar, I am a big advocate for individuals having solar as a means to remove personal costs, but once you get to having even one of these machines the issue arises of having a dedicated fast charger you’d have to shell out the expense of too, not to mention what happens on an operation with more than one tractor (most). A huge issue for me is that these are in their infancy, all manufacturers jumped the gun when it came to making electric vehicles and equipment, the battery tech should’ve been developed a lot longer before actual manufacturing. There is going to be decades of tractors that end up sitting in a yard looking all fancy and new but they only have a couple hundred hours on them because the owner didn’t want to pay tens of thousands to install a new battery.

@@dylanhagen6277John Deere want to wake up, new Holland are doing methane, JCB hydrogen, how do they think you can charge a machine using solar power whilst the machine is usually working during the hours of daylight, they delude themselves that autominous machines can work 24/7 but many operations need to be done in sunny dry days, and also lots of feilds have houses around them the owners of which get pretty grumpy when tractors keep them awake all night,
@daddym

sou d idea. but the gift wants large farms to use them too bad they can't support the long hours and large equipment that those large farms need to use to get the job done. electric is only practical for small and medium size farms, which can't support the ost of the electric tractor in the first place.😂
