THANK YOU for this Tim. This is "groovy", "outta sight" sixties music at its best. This was one of the first songs that combined rock with Gospel and became a HUGE MEGA HIT for a very very troubled time with the Viet Nam war and everything. Thank you for bringing it back to life❣️
If you go down the 5th D rabbit hole, you'll notice that their early hits are group harmonies, but the later you get and get to their later hits, they're going to be Marilyn McCoo centric. She has to be on the Mount Rushmore of underrated great voices ever.
If you haven’t seen Questlove’s doc Summer of Soul, please find it. 5th Dimension perform among a number of all time greats, all for free in the park on the weekends during the summer of 71. The best part of the doc is showing it to the artists who mostly hadn’t ever seen the footage. Two of the members of this band are still married and they teared up. Moving and also a total get down. Thanks for this!
I remember this song! This song feels like summer! You feel like going on a picnic, putting on a maxi dress, and sipping lemonade! Love your reaction! 🙂 Welcome back! 🤗
Wish y'all could see my parrot dancing to this song...🤣 I have loved the 5th Dimesion every since I was a little bitty girl. Marilyn McCoo's voice is one of a kind!
So you know these two melodies are from the 60s musical Hair - the first and final songs. The 5th recorded them together like this and it was a huge hit. I think you’d love the entire song track. The musical is a microcosm of the hippie culture and anti war movement of that time. Thanks for posting this and letting that sun shine in and out of your heart!
Saw them in concert in the late sixties (and I had been to many, many concerts of great groups and artists by then) and the Fifth Dimension were far and away the most entertaining, personable group I had the pleasure to witness. Not just good music, but all around good people singing it. I will remember them for the rest of my life.
Was lucky enough to see them in Central Park in NYC, they were giving a free concert. I just happened to go to the park that Sunday afternoon. Aquarius is my sign and I'm of that generation so have always loved this song.
This was a huge #1. "One Less Bell To Answer", "Wedding Bell Blues" and "(Last Night) I Didn't Get To Sleep At All" are other big hits of theirs. So glad you're back, missed ya!
I'm just smiling from ear to ear listening to Billy Davis, Jr. taking us home at the end. My mom played this record a lot when I was growing up, and it's always so uplifting to hear.
Great choice!! Never get tired of hearing this song or Marilyn McCoo's beautiful voice or 5th Dimension's perfect harmonies. They made this song so hugely popular in the late 60s, early 70s that high school marching bands across the country were performing it, including mine. So different.
Tim, we remember that song, beautiful man peace baby!!! Thank you for bringing this song to us!!! Wonderful memories ❤❤❤ Keith said the "hippie in him is coming out"!!!! Thank you 😊 Joan and Keith 😊
Hi Tim. Welcome back!! You were missed!! I love the 5th Dimension!! That song is wonderful as is One Less Bell to Answer and Up Up snd Away. They were one of the best groups from the 60's!!
This is from the show "Hair", a wonderful show that was very much tuned into those times. The Fifth Dimension's voices weave together into a perfect fabric of music. Thank you Tim! So glad u dig it!
I'm sitting here crying like a little kid. My dad was a drummer, actually played with Little Richard, Air Force Jazz Band and others. He used to set his drums up on our porch, play this song and jam. Everyone on the block would come out and we would have a party in the street. He is 84 now, has cancer and recently had a heart attack. This brought back the sound, smells, love and energy of my childhood. Thanks for that.
Here's where the song came from, the movie musical Hair. Sadly, Treat Williams, the guy with the dark curly hair that burns his draft notice, was killed last week while riding his motorcycle. It's actually a great movie and it still appropriate today. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oRPNXfqALOo.html
TIM, LOOKS LIKE THIS (SONG) TOUCH (YOU) DEEPLY. TEARS WERE ABOUT TO (FALL), ARE (YOU) ALRIGHT???? LET GO AND RELEASE!!!! WE (ALL) LOVE YOU ❤️. TILL NEXT ⏲️ TIME
It's impossible Tim to not feel what you're feeling when you listening to the second half of this song because it's talking about the world might turn its back on you but open up your heart. When you're lonely open up your heart it's just an emotional exciting feeling to listen to this song even all these years later. God bless you and your brother man
Loved this song as a pre-teen. I even made up a dance to go with it. Gosh, I still remember it and started dancing almost on autopilot hearing this from all those years ago. Thanks for that! The 5th Dimension sang beautiful harmony. There are those who say we are in the Age of Aquarius. The combo of the songs is perfect for that.
Been doing OK although I've really missed Tim's reactions. The break helped me realize what a greedy fan I've become...always wanting MORE. 😅 He's built such a loving community. I really enjoy myself here. Hope all is well with you too❣️
Wow, great reaction! Sometimes we all need an upbeat, feel good song to lift our spirits. Another fun one by the 5th Dimension is, Up, Up, & Away. My high school did a special performance at year’s end & some of the kids built a paper mache balloon for the number. I had to be no more than 8 yo, but I still remember it vividly! Check out some of their other songs too, they had scads of hits in the ‘60s. 😄
Wow, this song sure takes me back to my childhood! Baby boomer here! Love love this song! It was playing on all the radio stations! Great memories!! Thanks for appreciating such great talent!! 😊
"Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In is a medley of two songs written for the 1967 musical Hair by James Rado and Gerome Ragni (lyrics), and Galt MacDermot (music), released as a single by American R&B group the 5th Dimension. The song spent six weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart in the spring of 1969 and was eventually certified platinum in the US by the RIAA."
It does this old man's heart good to see you kids react the same way when we heard Aquarius the first time. This was pretty much our anthem. Summer of love. Good times.
I listened to this song quite a bit when I was going through a very difficult time in my life. Even when you are depressed it is impossible not to be a little be uplifted by Let the Sunshine In.
This song is from the rock musical "Hair", which hit Broadway in 1969 (I believe). Other groups had hits from the soundtrack, but only The 5trh Dimension took one to Number One! I love the choreography, the costumes, the singing, the horns, all of it. Great, great voices in that group.
Love love love this group! I found an album that all the art is by LeRoy Neiman. Amazing album. And who knew that the Preamble to the Constitution could sound so good? Check out how they did it!!
I had this 45 record when I was 8 years old...a white boy in Dallas...I had never heard anything like it...I played it so many times I almost wore the grooves on the record out!!!!
This was a big hit on the radio and jukeboxes in 1969. These two songs are from the Broadway musical “Hair” The song “Hair” was another huge hit and the musical was made into a movie. All about hippies and squares. It also made history for the actors taking off their clothes on stage. Big scandal back then….
I have heard these songs in passing since this was probably around the time I was born....so I never knew who sang these 2 songs and honestly this is the first time listening to the lyrics....I'm a lyrics person....and I love the lyrics and have a whole different outlook about these 2 songs. I would have been such a hippie girl if I was a teenager back then but I was 80's teenager and times and music were different. I needed to hear these 2 songs and I could see that spark in you light up again and I loved seeing that again. Soooo glad you are back. ✌❤🎶
Welcome back! So glad to see you! It’s hard to come on here when we are going thru life’s stuff, but bringing us together through music helps a great deal! I needed to hear this song today, thank you!
So impressed by the way you reacted to "Let the Sunshine In." It hits everybody,. I was a pre-teen kid in ultra-white Vermont when the song came out, bad household, but the song just gave me hope and joy. Looks like you got a piece of that emotion too.
