Well this is a deal breaker for me. Watching Ozark on my LG G1 was unbearable at times with the dimming ,which I didn't notice so much on my LG C9. this is one of the deal breakers for OLEDs in general, I honestly don't know why manufacturers haven't figured out a sweet spot for the TPC algorithm after 10 years of OLED TVs on the market
@cajampa
@cajampa Год назад
And it is not even needed. I disabled the TPC on my 2015 model when i got it And i h have been using it as an monitor with crazy hours on it since then with zero burn in. Just don't run it on max OLED light 24/7, don't let it get to hot and use basic burn in strategies like screen savers and dark mode in apps. Without TPC off no scene is stable and your calibration is pretty much useless. And the strict ABL on the OLED already males the calibration less than stable. But with TPC on it gets so dark you don't see anything. It is pretty much unusable and jarring to see it just dim whenever SO MUCH.

@@cajampa just because you can't recognize burn-in doesn't mean you don't have it. all OLEDs will get burn-in, and all of them have burn-in to a certain degree. that's how OLEDs work, each LED is alive and has its own life span, so it dies at a different rate compared to its neighbors. that's what burn in is.

Looking for help on LG G3 -When I go into the LG g3 sound, I set up wired speaker eARC pass through. When I turn off the tv, the tv defaults back to the internal speakers. Each time I turn the tv on, i have to go into the audio setting and redo everything. I’m coming from an LG c9 same set up but never had this issue. All HDMI cables are high quality. After I set it up, it works. But I have to redo it every time. Set up hdmi1 ps5 Hdmi2 eARC Hdmi3 Xbox And I use Apple TV Sent from my iPhone

@@BusterDarcythere's a hack you can use to get into that menu, using the TV's browser to reach a website that allows you to access the menu where GSR and APL can be disabled. That's how I did it. You don't need the service cpnstrol remote.

ifthe tech is anything like the oled switch, then as wulf dens test shows, you have to leave the thing on a static image none stop for over a year to notice any burn in, and even then its slight.

Hollywood studios should be forced to watch with this auto dimming on. Also, this algorithm seems really, extremely dumb. Why would they dim down the image when the picture is dark anyway? What are they trying to prevent?!

burn-in. as much as people like to pretend that it isn't an issue, the myriad protections and mitigations they have in place show that it is indeed still a problem. they're slapping band-aids on top of five other band-aids trying to fix it and people keep disabling them so i can see why they just removed the ability to circumvent their mitigations entirely, even if i dont agree with it.

I have been noticing this weird dimming on my LG CX for years now but never turned it off. When buying a new TV I would try to get one that doesn't do this, but am unsure. If Samsung QD Oleds also have this and LG still does...that would leave LED TVs, but I am not sure I could go back to backlight issues and all that...

I noticed the service remote is available for purchase, however, the passcode that is required to get the service menu on the TV, is that provided with the purchase of the remote? My LG OLED E6 (still working fine) does in fact do this auto dimming when watching dark scenes in media content and drives me nuts and never knew that this was occurring cause the enabled "feature". A response will be greatly appreciated. Love your deep dives on HDTVs!
