Well this is a deal breaker for me. Watching Ozark on my LG G1 was unbearable at times with the dimming ,which I didn't notice so much on my LG C9. this is one of the deal breakers for OLEDs in general, I honestly don't know why manufacturers haven't figured out a sweet spot for the TPC algorithm after 10 years of OLED TVs on the market
@cajampa
@cajampa Год назад
And it is not even needed. I disabled the TPC on my 2015 model when i got it And i h have been using it as an monitor with crazy hours on it since then with zero burn in. Just don't run it on max OLED light 24/7, don't let it get to hot and use basic burn in strategies like screen savers and dark mode in apps. Without TPC off no scene is stable and your calibration is pretty much useless. And the strict ABL on the OLED already males the calibration less than stable. But with TPC on it gets so dark you don't see anything. It is pretty much unusable and jarring to see it just dim whenever SO MUCH.

@@semahj Honestly that is a very small price to pay for FAR superior picture quality. @@cajampa just because you can't recognize burn-in doesn't mean you don't have it. all OLEDs will get burn-in, and all of them have burn-in to a certain degree. that's how OLEDs work, each LED is alive and has its own life span, so it dies at a different rate compared to its neighbors. that's what burn in is.

Buying my first new TV in almost 10 years! I found this channel during my research. My choices were either the LG G3 77", the Sony qd-oled 77" (when its released), or the Samsung qd-oled 77". Now it seems like LG is eliminating itself from contention. I will be pairing one of those with either the Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6 (when it's released), or the Sony HT-A9 system.

The reviews of the HT-A9 (I don't really consider it a "soundbar") put it in a league of its own, currently. Have you looked into either of the two I mentioned? @Falko87
@Falko87 Год назад
If the picture brightness sinks under a certain value, the TPC algo is not able anymore to detect in-picture-movement and so on it will give out an STATIC PICTURE FLAG to the OLED panel firmware and the dimming curve is starting. The root cause - I think - relies in the type of data the TPC algo receive. Maybe it relies only on changing voltage values and the lower the OLED light output the narrower the changing voltage range. Color and/or luminance value based data algo would add too much lag. Anyway, maybe I am totally wrong. 🤷‍♂

As a X95K owner watching this made me think "woah, I dodged a bullet!". The dimming on the video in HDR games and movies was just unacceptable, and I don't want the burn-in worries either when those are turned off. I can recommend X95K 85" (I only have the 65") as it is really close to OLED. My 65" X95K has a bit of blooming, but nothing that you can really see unless you go look for it in full screen contents. In some games/movies you can really clearly see haloing in dark scenes against bright objects, however, it is a small problem compared to everything else the TV delivers. Other than that, it looks incredible! Perhaps 2023 Sony minileds are so close to OLEDs that there's no point going OLED anymore. For reference, I use my TV as a PC monitor everyday and it's on sometimes 16-17 hours with windows desktop static screen, and that's the way I like it as I may need to use it for work in short bursts during those hours. I'm in the miniled/microled camp forever now, and will be going for a 85" Sony Miniledin 2025.

Any technology that requires manufacturers to force users to have an unacceptable image quality to prevent faults should be avoided at all costs. If other manufacturers allow those precautionary functions to be disabled, you're basically condemning yourself to early degradation. @@raymondzrike Since the C2's introduction the iTPG hasn't worked until just recently with a new firmware update. Who knows when Calman will be working. Hopefully soon, but I'm not counting on it. Seems like a missed opportunity to me. LG is not Flanders Scientific, so getting their displays into the hands of professional users is a big opportunity.
