Narciso, of course, had a connection to the music of Tárrega in a way that none of the other great guitarists of the late twentieth century had. After his first guitar teacher (a man by the name of Jesús Guevarra) and before he went on to study with Asencio, Enescu, Gieseking, and Boulanger, Narciso studied with two pupils of Tárrega, namely, Josefina Robledo (who used the nails) and Estanislao Marco (who didn't). (Segovia only had one lesson with a great pupil of Tárrega, Miguel Llobet, on the latter's arrangements, as far as we know.) There exist amateur recordings of Robledo playing Tárrega and, of course, Estanislao Marco's many compositions are now known, including the Guajira that he dedicated to Narciso. Yepes's complete Tárrega album can be listened to here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mlNaY6g2Wag.html

The great underrated genius of the classical guitar, overshadowed by the less accomplished Segovia and his line who definitely get the award for best marketing of classical guitar music. He effectively invented that 10-string instrument and played it with a perfection that is genuinely awesome to behold. I was taught by one of his students and feel so grateful for the grounding his methods gave me. Viva Yepes.

My first time hearing this version of "El Columpio" and it has so much swing and vigor. All the other versions I hear are so meloncholy albeit beautiful.

I’ve always wondered, is the piece called El Columpio because it’s supposed to evoke images of an actual swing that you would find on a porch, or does the word “columpio” have other connotations in Spanish?

The way Narciso played it, especially here, for once one can hear the gleeful swing in this piece.
