BRAZIL vs JAPAN | Highlights | Women's VNL 2024. The Brazil women's national volleyball team is administered by the Confederação Brasileira de Voleibol (CBV) and takes part in international volleyball competitions. It is ranked second in the FIVB World Rankings as of August 2021.[1][2] They are the current record holder of FIVB World Grand Prix champion titles, having won it for the eleventh time in 2016 and are the gold medalists of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The team also got a gold four times in the Pan American Games, and three other Olympic medals, the latest a silver in the 2020 Summer Olympics.[3]
The most successful coaches for Brazil are Bernardo Rezende, who led the team from 1990 to 2000, and José Roberto Guimarães, who has managed the team since 2004.
The Japan women's national volleyball team (Hinotori Nippon, 火の鳥NIPPON), or All-Japan women's volleyball team, is currently ranked 6th[4] in the world by FIVB. The head coach is Masayoshi Manabe.
One of their greatest successes was at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, when they defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union on the way to the gold medal.
Japan was qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics by winning the Women's Olympic Qualifier that was held from 8 May to 16 May in Tokyo, Japan. In Athens, Greece the team took fifth place in the overall-rankings.
Finally after almost three decades of medal drought in the Olympics, Japan took home the bronze medal by defeating South Korea in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

This Japan's team is probably the strongest post their bronze finish in London, sadly their physiology will always limit them if they are matched with a very aggressive team. Because they move fast, they have to win their games in 3 or 4 sets because they tend to slow and cool down during the 4th and 5th. If the score difference is high and the probability of winning a set is low, they should let their bench play so their main players can go all the way on the decider set.

Middle Blockers are going to be the key to Brazil's success in the upcoming games. Thaisa and Carol is the safest duo for Brazil's MB lineup. Both proved their abilities in the past, but they are a bit old in age, which could be a problem in longer matches or back to back games. Their blocking is phenomenal against Japan, and if they keep their performances like that, Brazil is still one of the best teams in the world.

@@user-py1bf9nf2l Turkey is still the best in the world, and Melissa Vargas is returning to form. If Brazil beat Turkey on June 16, it will be because Zehra is not back to her level, having sustained some sort of leg injury in the US...That being said, Turkey have better setters and one of the two best liberos in the world, the other being Branda Castillo, on the, however, inconsequential Dominican Republic

@@TheWashingtonxD If she was not there, it would a big factor if they lost. She is one of the top 3 or 4 middle blockers in the world. She has a size, mobility and vertical reach that no middle blocker else on their team has. If you look at the statistics on the VNL website, you will see that she has more blocks than anyone on their team despite missing their last 2 games.

Japan are very well coordinated, but when they come up against huge teams like Poland, Serbia or Turkey, the odds are stacked against them. Unfortunately, you still cannot teach size. That being said, surely there must be tall girls among the 125 million Japanese.

@@blackangel1690 Are you sure you know anything about volleyball, or for that matter what the word "huge" means? Turkey is ranked number 1, as it won every contest last year including the VNL, the CEV and the unofficial world championship that was held in Japan. Turkey is ranked number 1, and has been for almost a year. As of today, Poland is ranked number 3, where as Japan, because of its defeat of a disorganised Turkey, has risen to number 7 intoday's rankings. In terms of size, Poland are huge. The have a 6'8 opposite, a 6'10 middle, and several huge outside hitters. Turkey can also be big when they go with a line up 6'4 Vargas, 6'6 Gunes, and 6'5 Karakurt across the front. It is doubtful than Japan has anyone more 6'3 on their line up.
