As a Canadian living in the UK, I HAD to try Tim Hortons in the UK! So does British Tim Hortons compare to the Canadian version??
For many Canadians, Tim Hortons is a nostalgic cafe - I know it was a big part of my childhood and it was such a treat to get some Tim Bits or an IceCapp! I miss it a lot while living abroad.. so how does the UK Tim Hortons compare..?

Hey! I'm Alanna - a twenty-something documenting my life as a Canadian living in England.
I share the ups and downs of an expat living abroad and what it's really like living in the UK. It's not always easy, but there's been so many wonderful experiences, too. I post a RU-vid video every Tuesday plus an additional video every Saturday on my Patreon account. I also livestream every Wednesday and Sunday at 5:30pm GMT/BST on Twitch.

Brit living in Canada here. Pleased to see your honesty, all the foreigners here I know think it's bizarre that Canadians love it, though we understand it's mostly a nostalgic pursuit at this point.

If you are in the UK, you should bear in mind that Tim Hortons don’t make anything on the premises. Everything arrives at the store frozen and is heated up to make it appear freshly baked. Along with cheese, one of the things I miss most about the UK are the bakers shop. Tim Hortons might have greater variety of toppings, but their donuts will never come close to something a local bakery has just made fresh. Independent bakers are common here, but. Plenty of people will drive past twenty Tim Hortons to get to a place where the donuts are made on the premises.
@Karma-df2gm
@Karma-df2gm Год назад
That's essentially the same way it is in Canada too ever since Tim Horton's was bought out by an American company RBI. Tim Horton's in Canada has gone really downhill. Good news and bad news. Bad news is they are not that good anymore. Good news is we got a whole lot of them. They are convenient. That's it.
@charlestaylor9424
@charlestaylor9424 9 месяцев назад
Real bakers are disappearing and Greggs the warmer upper is taking their place. I won't call Greggs a baker because you can't buy bread there. The sausage rolls are crap and their choice is so limited.

I’m British and I lived in Canada for a year. I would go nearly every day as there was one on my uni campus. I thought the UK Tim’s was really similar to their original Canadian counterparts! To put it simply, it tasted the same to me! Gutted they didn’t take my Tim’s Rewards card though 😂

Thank you for the heads-up about there being a Tim Horton's in Kent. I live near Folkestone, but I took my wife on a surprise trip to the Gravesend branch today. We haven't been to Canada for quite a few years, but she said it was a reminder of our first foreign holiday together. We both tried chicken burgers with lattice fries, and our experience with that seemed a bit better than yours. We visited at lunchtime though, so probably our food was freshly cooked. I gather that a branch is going to open in Margate, which will be a bit closer for us.

The top selling items in Canadian ones are 'double, doubles', ice caps and donuts. A double, double is just drip coffee with two sugars and two servings of cream. People don’t really go there for food unless there is no alternative. The way Canadian towns have grown and been developed means most towns have one major road that runs through them, businesses that cater to people on the move cluster along them, this means if you stop to get something to eat, there are very often two or three fast food places to choose from, you might pull into a parking lot of a strip mall and have a Tim Hortons, KFC, A&W and a DQ side by side. In which case the Tim Hortons and DQ will probably sell a dozen burgers a week. Only the rare stand alone Tim Hortons will sell much savoury stuff

And that's a good thing for me because I won't be walking miles and miles to get a) those gorgeous donut holes, an amazing array of flavors and you seem to like them, (b) that maple and cream filled donut (I don't know of anyone around here that sells maple donuts, but if it's as good as it looks, I'd be addicted to them immediately), and (c) the Ice Cap that looks like a chocolate shake. But it's never busy there, and the food certainly takes longer than 60 seconds, so maybe it's cooked fresh. Interesting to see your perspective on it regardless.

Great video Alanna! We have a Tim Hortons in Plymouth. I am only interested in the coffee and doughnuts lol. I think they are missing a trick with not serving bagels because nowhere else does them really and they would control the market :-)

I had my first taste of Monsieur Horton in Birmingham at the weekend and I have to say, I get it. The hot coffee I had was exceptionally nice as was my doughnut. The Iced Capp I had to take away immediately gave me type 2 diabetes. 10/10 I'll have to try a breakfast or something next

I totally forgot about breakfast but the options in Canada are usually pretty good! I'll have to try that here next time

Ah, I live in Coventry and travel to Brum quite often for a wander... I've passed the Tim Horton on New Street *many* times but now I feel it's my duty to try it on my next trip. I'm always up for a coffee, so I reckon it'll be that and some TimBites.. here's hoping it's 8/8 maple leaves! 🙂

If the regular coffee at the UK Tim Horton's is the same as in Canada, then it's a win!
