When you come to a new country, getting into the same profession you studied or worked in your home country isn't always easy. The road to success will be filled with thorns and pebbles. But if you focus on your goal, trust me, in the end, it will be a gratifying and proud moment you can cherish forever.
l received a lot of questions asking why I chose DDS over Dental Equivalency, especially after clearing most of the equivalency examinations.
The first and foremost reason I chose DDS in UOFT over Dental Equivalency is that UOFT has been my dream school since I landed in Canada. When I got the admission letter to UOFT, I was confused, filled with joy, and unable to choose my path. I asked myself many questions about my choice and decision and how it would change my future.
My husband asked me a question that helped me choose the right path I believed would be ideal. He asked me to think about myself working as a Dentist 20 years later, well settled with enough money in my account and nothing else to accomplish. Will I regret my decision not to study DDS at the University of Toronto, one of the top-rated Universities in the world, which is the dream of many Dentists like me who migrated to Canada? That question struck me, and I was 💯 sure I would regret my decision if I rejected this offer, thinking that it would be more expensive and I might lose another year or two on this path. Even though | I faced many challenges, I am grateful for what and where I am today, and by the end of the day, I do not have to live with regrets for the rest of my life.
I know every person's perspective is different, and this is purely my perspective. For many dentists in Canada, this might not be an ideal move, but if it makes me happy and proud and does not give me sleepless nights, I am sure this is the best choice for me.
