LUNGERN: The resort of Lungern lies on the Brünig Pass halfway between Lucerne and Interlaken. The idyllic rural landscape surrounding the village is an ideal place to relax. The emerald-hued waters of the Lungernsee and surrounding landscape in Canton Obwalden attract nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts alike. The Lungernsee (Lake Lungern) has drinking water quality, up to 23 degrees water temperature and idyllic bathing spots, such as the small lido at Lungern with its fine sandy beach and long water slide. The dammed mountain lake is also popular for angling, yachting and windsurfing.
Highlights: Schönbüel - 2002 metres high with panoramic views to Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau; Indoor Schiess-Sport-Zentrum Brünig - underground shooting range covering an area of over 10,000 square metres hewn out of the rock face. Activities include classical sports shooting, archery, darts and blowpipe; Brünigbahn - The narrow-gauge Brünig Railway runs from Interlaken via Brienz to the Brünig Pass, continuing to Lucerne and Engelberg. An interesting trip that doesn’t just appeal to railway enthusiasts.

MEIRINGEN: Meiringen is a municipality in the Interlaken-Oberhasli administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. Meiringen is rich in tradition and lies to the south-east of Lake Brienz. It is famous for the nearby Reichenbach Falls, a spectacular waterfall that was the setting for the final showdown between Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's fictional detective Sherlock Holmes and his nemesis Professor Moriarty. The village is also known for its claim to have been the place where meringue was first created (Meringue is a type of dessert or candy, often associated with Swiss, French, Polish and Italian cuisines).
Many of Meiringen’s attractions are linked to the icy glacier waters of the nearby mountains, such as the Aareschlucht (Aare Gorge), formed by melt water over thousands of years. A well-secured walkway runs through the gorge along the vertical rock face, just above the frothing spray.
A nostalgic funicular transports passengers to the Reichenbach waterfalls, affording picturesque views of smaller waterfalls en route. The viewing platform at the mountain terminus allows a view over the torrent of the 120 metre high Reichenbach waterfall.
Highlights of Meiringen: Sherlock Holmes Museum; Aareschlucht - Aare Gorge, 180 metre deep gorge with caves, enclosed by vertical rock faces;
Rosenlauital (Rosenlaui Valley) with Gletscherschlucht (glacier gorge).; Alpen Tower on Planplatten - panorama restaurant in the Hasliberg ski region at 2250 metres altitude with 360-degree views of the surrounding mountain chains.
