I love this channel so please don’t be offended by this comment. I wouldn’t say Cape Verde is a European country inside Africa. We are an African country that is apart of Africa. It has European influence yes(it also depends on the island, for example Sal has a lot of European influence in terms of architecture/food due to Portugal, Spain, and Italian tourists and settlers), but we also have a lot of Senegalese influence on our way of life and culture. I wouldn’t ever say Cape Verde is a European country in Africa, maybe Latin African (I wouldn’t even say that), to me it’s just African.

We (South Africa) played against them in the Afcon this year in Jan.They have beautiful people in Cape Verde.

The thing with Cape Verde is that The Portuguese discovered the islands without population, so the first settlements were European, but very soon Africans also arrived (sadly, you know under what circumstances), this is why they don't really have that "African-ness", as the country was built on European principles first (and I'm not saying they can't change with time), and also the population isn't very large because historically the region was a transport hub, not a production hub (where most slaves were taken to). Now with modern shipping vessels Cape Verde isn't as important in trading, so their best bet is to encourage tourism in countries that have people that can spend $$.

It was called the prison of slow death. I had family members in that prison and many Portuguese politicians were there. After the Revolution of the 25th of April, they were released. A sad part of our history

These people being interviewed have no clue. They just interviewed some hotel managers. That’s definitely not the reality of Cape Verde. The woman is is not being truthful about the Sal airport being built by Italians. There was basically a landing strip built during world was 2 by Italians before independence. The modern infrastructure was/is built by Caoe Verdeans.

Cape Verde is a collection of islands off the coast of Africa but it's a tourist destination that is European oriented. That's one reason why it is seen as a "European" nation outside of its history of being colonized by the Portuguese. Also Cape Verde has a largely mixed race population. Over 70% of the populace is multiracial . Only 20% of the population is African or black. So it isnt like a traditional African nation since the vast majority of African nations are monoracial not diverse or multiracial.

As a Cape Verdean the men is right the island Sal has the most European feel to it then the other islands OK failure depends what kind of what kind of feelings are you looking for you because every island is different from each other Saul has the most open field to it because of the tourist

a lot of places in africa are more beautiful than cape verde. Ghana, Cote Ivoire, Nigeria all have very beautiful and lush places which outshine dry/arid cape verde

Cape Verde practice good democracy and governance, something that is a rarity in other African countries where socio-economic instability and corruption take over the nations. If you want to see history, on the island of Santiago you can visit the Tarrafal prison. For many years it was a prison for Portuguese political prisoners. Until 1975 it was a Portuguese province.

While the tittle of the video was unfortunate but the saddest part was when they were laughing at the slaves/prisoners who took little time to die from the cooking they were exposed to.Thats very unAfrican and dissapointing

Agreed,with anafrican element,but just a quick correction,it wasn’t a slaves/prison!! it was a revolutionary’s fighter’s against the Portuguese colonisers,prison!!country’s like:Angola,Mozambique,São tomé,Guiné bissau,and Cabo Verde,(Portuguese)Cape verde(ingles)were all united in early 60’s to fight against the Portuguese colonisers,after 500 years of dominatio,and oppression against the people of this 5 nations,they finally succeeded..in 1975 they defeated the Portuguese and they kick them out of Africa.after 500 years!!

Muzungus say the South Island feels like Europe? That's colonialism 2.0 going on. Cape Verde depends on tourism just like St Lucia & Barbados. Soon Europeans will buy them out and we may see the issues like in the Carribean. Africans need to start doing more tourism. This feels bad & sad. Italians?🤔

Cape Verde islands do not belong to Africans, only Cape Verdeans can decide for their future and no country in Africa has a word to say on this, (neither do countries in Europe). If you are not happy with the tourism situation why don't you blame african billionnaires who do not invest in Cape Verde islands? I saw in Steven Ndukwu channel that there are thousands of empty multi-million $ villas in Nigeria. If these multi million villas are built in cape verde they would never be empty, there would be European tourists paying 1000$ per day on Airbnb to rent them.

@@michaelmatisse2808 Cape Verde belongs to them and yes, it’s in Africa and Africans must be concerned just like Europeans have the EU to shield from outsiders. This was a major slave dungeon & later colonized territory by European oppressors. There’s good reason for concern. @S3bot is very correct. I’m sure Cape Verdeans are denied access to EU, only to have currency manipulators to easy access their lands. Africans need to open up better trade & travel. Lessons repeat and Europeans never have taken goodness anywhere. That’s truth & fair.

Cape Verde has been colonized from 1460 to 1975. It is like azores, madeira and canary islands which were discovered around 1450. While 90% of africa has been colonized between 1880 and 1960. In reality cape verde looks like canary islands 50-70 years ago. with an african flavor because population is creole.

Canary Islands was also originally African(North African) but Iberian(Portuguese and Spaniards settlers) started fighting over the islands and eventually took it.

@@capeverdeanprincess4444 yeah Canary islands had already a "berber" population called the "guanches". Nevertheless because they are white and indistinguishable from Spaniards, they are now considered to be in Europe (even if it is geographically closer to africa). Cape Verde, Canary, Madeira and Azores archipelagos belong to the same area named MACARONESIA. All the archipelagos were discovered at the same time (between 1430 and 1460), speak a spanish or portuguese based language, have the same religion (catholics), they have the same landscapes (especialy canary and cape verde are a copy paste), have the same wildlife/fauna, and have the same history (with local variations slaves in cape verde and madeira, guanches in canary, british and dutch colonisation in azores)

@@michaelmatisse2808Guanches don’t look like people from the peninsula (mainland). They looked very different before the Portuguese and Spaniards “discovered” the island and mixed. You can differentiate a full blooded Guanche from an Iberian very easily.

What do you 50-70 years ago…lol Most of the development happened after independence when Cape Verdeans took power. The place was a shitshow unders colonial rule. I’m Cape Verdean.
