Hauptschule has a very poor reputation. Realschule and Gymnasium focus more on academic performance. Gymnasium on top (middle and high school combined), followed by Realschule with less workload and topics and then Hauptschule as basic education with school leaving certificate after grade 9 or 10. Hauptschule is focused towards blue-collar jobs in lower positions like factory workers. Main focus is on "work studies" (economics, home economics, work theory, ergonomics, craft and design). The schools are often concidered as social flashpoints with high proportion of foreigners and their lack of language comprehension, poor people and delinquents. It's the last resort with high amount of desperation and lots of dropouts. At least 20 years ago when I was there. Is is possible to climb up later on even to a master's degree. But that is rare. In general preparing students for vocational life starts in primary school or even kindergarten with trips and projects. Career guidance starts between 4th and 6th grade. At least two 3 week's-long internships are in middle school mandatory between 7th and 9th grade (7+8 or 8+9 depending on the school), one per year. But there can be more. Each state handles schools different so there are 16 different school systems. I had 9 internships in total plus vocational training before apprenticeship. But I have gone a special path. As child I was ill but nobody noticed. I had met the requirements for higher education but was left behind so the teachers recommended to send me to a Hauptschule. It backfired and the illness grew to the point I was concidered a delinquent, later I dropped out. Years later I went to adult education and catched up on secondary school certificate and started an apprenticeship as Office Manager. Sadly, I had to drop out again because of my illness or impairment now. I got pension for disabled people, unable to work more than 3 hours per day.

5:36 _Europes tornado alley_ It's not what Americans would think of as a tornado. We often have strong winds (storm, hurricane), some of which also damage our forests, but usually our houses, roads and other structures are quite stable and well protected. It can sometimes happen that roofs are damaged, but this does not happen very often. 5:55 _Bread in germany_ We have more than 3000 types of bread. 6:13 _Different sausages in germany_ In Germany we have more than 1500 different types of sausage (we need them for over 3000 types of bread). Not all in the form of a sausage, but sliced. 7:58 _Who you are rocking more_ In my personal opinion, I think Adidas would win. 13:53 _different kind of schools_ First of all, the performance of the child decides on the further type of school. Then, of course, the parents also have a right to make decisions, but normally, in consultation with the child's class teacher, they choose the highest possible school type in order to give the child the best education. 15:20 _National pride_ Pride is a big word. You can only be proud of something you have achieved yourself. We're not proud to be german, we are glad to be german. 15:56 _you are allowed to talk about_ Yes, we can freely talk about it, we even teach this subject in school.. Denying, downplaying, or lying about the past is not allowed. And we're doing everything we can to ensure this never happens again

Translating Vergangenheitsbewältigung" with "lingering sense of guilt from the past" is not quite on point. "Dealing/coming to terms with the past" is better. It doesn't make sense to say that we today carry some form of guilt of what happened in the past. We do however carry a responsibility to ensure something like this can never happen again. This "never again" is a central motif in modern german identity.

The thing about the Volksverhetzungs law is the following: You can talk about everything and show everything about the war and the nazi regime as long as it is for education and not for propaganda. There are certain songs and movies that are forbidden too. Mostly propaganda against jews or other groups. You are just not allowed to own nazi items like flags, hitler busts or anything that would be interesting for neo nazi collectors. We wan't to prevent "holy items" and "pilgrimage sites" for the far right. You can't deny the holocaust, play down genocides or make non satirical jokes about it, show nazi symbols, or say something really bad against any race, nationality or religious group. There are some loopholes but these are satire acts. Satirists are allowed to talk about genocides and races in a mocking manner as long as it is not meant and clearly an act to parody someone (Hitler parodies or etc.). It's crazy that the US doesn't have a smiliar law, as you have a more diverse population than germany. Most race related insults would fall under this law. So any dude that would call you the n word, say stuff about cotton fields and you being his slave can go to prison for saying that. I'm happy that we have this law. We have a lot of laws like this to protect people of all shapes from hate. Even the first article of our basic law is "The dignity of man is inviolable."
@TheDemouchetsREACT

The amount of people who would go to jail over this law here would be historical. We hear "that was so long ago" and "y'all should get over it" often.
@montanus777
@montanus777 Год назад
@@TheDemouchetsREACT tbf you'll hear that 'long-ago'-point here as well - maybe not that often compared to the US, but it's still a thing. the 'get-over-it'-point on the other hand is less of a thing here - simply because there aren't that many jews in germany anymore. the big difference between slavery and a genocide is that former slaves had children and (great-)grandchildren that live to this day, whereas most of the jews are just gone (either killed or moved to different countries). so, it's probably better to compare jews in germany to the natives in the US (not to african-americans).

The school bit actually has sort of an opening upwards: you can in technically get into the lower end (Hauptschule) than get to the next higher school from there (Realschule) and afterwards transfer to a top end school(Gymnasium)... it's just more complicated to do so. I myself went to realschule first and then went to a Gymnasium to reach University. (so practically the way I mentioned before just starting with the middle school instead of Hauptschule)

It was at age 65 for a long time, but has been raised in the early 2000s. Only people who were born before 1964can get pension at 65. People born after 1964 have to tough it out till 67.

14:32 the thing with the german school system is that it isn't neccecaryly a job oriented system. It's more to split the intelligence in to 3 groups. If kids in elementary school have good grades they usually go to the gymnasium afterwards where the intensety and densety of the schooling is higher then the other forms. People that went there usually study and are the ones that become doctors, engeneers and teacher etc. If you were kind of middle good in school you go to the Realschule where you still go deep in to topics but you don't go in to the extremely hard topics. It's more of an allround schooling where you have the choice of either working afterwards or going to school for couple more years and get the degree that you get in the Gymnasium. If you were bad in school you go to the Hauptschule. The topics aren't done in great detail and you basicly get the minimum of schooling needed to go through life. These students typicly end up in low level jobs or physicly demanding jobs. The time that you go to school also differs. Gymnasium is 12/13 years, Realschule is 10 years and Hauptschule is 9 years. This schooling system gives every student an environment best suited for them

Over time, these masks developed into distinct regional and town-centered styles. As you saw, there are witches and various demonic ones, as well as funny and humorous characters. In Bavaria ( I don't know the exact rules for all States) your grades in fourth grade are the first decider. You need a certain average to go to gymnasium or realschule. Then there are also the recommendations of the teachers. For example a child has the required grades but the teacher knows that the child was only able to achieve it by being pushed extremely hard by the parents and will have much more problems keeping up further down the road the teacher can mention that in the recommendation. If your average is not good enough you can still take part in a three days test run in a gymnasium or realschule after wich you have exams in German and math. In the end the parents decide where they will send their kids. Kids at that age mostly care where their friends go and only a few " know" they want to be a doctor or a mechanic. It is not so easy to switch between school forms but you can choose the M- Zug in Hauptschule and then go on graduate Realschule and afterwards there are different ways to make Abitur. So even when you were still to immature in elementary school or whatever reason you can go all the way to university.

Some things in this video are not true. 1. At the time when David Hasselhof had his hit "Looking for Freedom" the protests were also taking place in the GDR that contributed to the fall of the Wall. David Hasselhoff believes for all eternity that his song was the reason the wall fell. Nonsense. 2. Bears: There are no bears in the wild in Germany. Wolves have been back for a few years but bears, no. 3. Some translation errors. Fun fact: People who grew up in the old GDR feel or feel a great connection to the native americans. Me for example. In the GDR we have always admired the fight for their country and their freedom. Unfortunately that is no longer the case today. But many of the older generations from the GDR will definitely agree with me.

The laws are changing very much. But the current status is that it's a simple discussion between the teachers and the parents what school would be suitable for the kid. And then the parents can choose the right school for their child.

Sorry but I have to say it again. Its called Adidas.The emphasis on the first A. Do you know they were brothers? Adolf Dassler (Adi) and Rudolf Dassler. After they've split Adolf called his company Adidas, the first three letters of his first and last name.Rudolf brought out Puma. I like both but Adidas is my fav. Nice video btw 👌

Yes, the kids are kinda categorized at a young age (actually two years earlier than what it was for me in lower saxony back in the eighties) but they can extend their grade from Hauptschule to Realschule and even to Gymnasium later on. I'd still prefer, if they'd make the cut at a later age. Come on, fouth grade... you're just ten years old. Do kids at this age really have to feel that much pressure?

15:41 it isn't exactly true that the book Mein Kampf is illegal. The original version of the book is illegal but there is a new overworked version that has comments in them to tell you why what was written there is bad and what to learn from it. I think some parts got taken out of it too. That version is legal because it is schooling material of sorts (it isn't read in school but it is specially overworked to teach you about it). Swastikas are illegal but that depends on the context they are in. If it is in a documentary, history books, other forms of schooling/teaching material or in some films it is legal to schow. However if it is you in privat having it because you like the nazis it is illegal. Basicly if it's teaching about the past it is allowed, if it glorifys the past it is illegal

At around age 16, 10th grade each kid has to choose wether it wants to continue going to school or start a specific school/work education, usually for 2-4 years. Those kids can still go back to school afterwards if they decided to study something later on. Nothing to loose. As for me, my parents, once I made the decision to continue with school, signed me up to go to a gymnasium, so I faked their signature and went to a more easy going school 😂 After that I never did a classic education, neither did I go to university. I am selfthaught and turned out that it's just like career changers no problem at all, even though they keep telling us the opposite.. In my personal experience "German virtues" are so highly appreciated that Nobody ever cared or asked me for my certificates. Especially nowadays where there are headhunters & recruiters running around everywhere. It's a big scam.

As a matter of fact ... If a child is very good at "lower education" and wants to chenge to better school, there´s always a way to allow it to better school. ... This isn´t a "one-way-system"!

Prepare for the flood of mistakes in the video getting ironed out :) This video isn't the greatest anymore in terms of introducing Germany so some things aren't entire correct anymore. His pronounciation of "Schweslig-Holsteiners" (Schleswig-Holsteiners) is so awful. Otto von Bismarck has a CK in his name. Pention has been pushed back to at least 67, or 45 work years. He misspelled Mehrdeutig, Wirtschaftswunder and Backpfeifengesicht as well. Because the trains from East to West had a tendency to get boarded by Eastern Citizens to flee into West Germany, there were very strict controls, and the trains were cruising at a very high speed. One day an accident occured with one of these trains, where the speeding train - in the belief his rail was unoccupied - crashed onto a currently standing, unloading train in the station. Germany sees not many tornadoes per year. Compared to the rest of the Europe it might me "much", but these Tornadoes are often very weak. There have been instances though when more heavy tornadoes hit. Bears haven't been wild animals in our roster for a while now. Now one has recently appeared in Baden-Württemberg, but I don't know what happened as I didn't follow the news. It would be nice if you watched the "How to pronounce german brands" video by Feli from Germany. Adidas has a very different pronounciation in Germany. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PGx5lEDLC4Q.html is the link to that video. I actually speak a type of Swabian, and I always love the reaction of other Germans xD The stingy part fits me as well xD The schools are usually decided by a mixture of the kids wishes and its mental capacity. If they lack certain skills, they might not be able to go to the Gymnasium because it will simply be to hard for them. I could have gone to a Gymnasium, but I didn't want to stay at home all day doing school work until way to late. So I went to a Realschule instead. You can't deny the Holocaust. You can talk about it if you find somebody, but don't try to deny the Holocaust. You can go to jail for a very long time!
