@@PilotTed matches impart less nasty flavor into what you're smoking that most lighters do. Though you can minimize that flavor regardless by letting the flame sit for a minute and burn off the nasty flavors before lighting your pipe or cigar.
@PilotTed Zippo Fuel tastes real bad. The same reason you will usually see A Smoker using a Bong Using either Hemp wick or A Butane Lighter. Zippo is the classic but damn if it doesn't taste horrid

This was a gentleman’s lighter to be sure. In a time when everyone smoked this would offer you any means you could need to courteously offer to light for someone else. Would have been good form to offer either way especially in business. Personal experiences with the pipe smoking generations, a lighter like this would’ve been used by either the most polite or most pompous of people.
As a Zippo fanatic, the easiest way to get a quality light without the lighter fluid taste is to simply use 99% Isopropanol as fuel. The only downsides are that it burns hotter, and it evaporates faster.

So Cool Alter…! Eine wirklich schöne Sammlung von Benzin Feuerzeug. Zum Teil wie ich gesehen habe sind ein paar sehr sehr Alte Feuerzeuge dabei…?! Welches ist das Älteste Feuerzeug in deinem Besitz…? Wie sieht es aus und aus welchem Jahr stammt das Feuerzeug…? Solche Dinge zu sammeln ist echt cool da es so viele verschiedene Feuerzeuge gibt. Dazu kommt das diese Dinger einen Wert besitzen da sie noch immer funktionieren und eine gute Qualität haben. Nicht wie andere Dinge die man sammeln kann die aus Plastik sind. Wirklich echt Cool…!

That is a nice lighter. However, I think the matchstick heads should be stored inside the compartment rather than facing outward. Suppose a spark from striking a match hit one of the others and they all start burning.
For easier use while smoking a pipe. I'm guessing it's a 3 in 1. Upright use for cigarettes. Sideways for pipe & Match sticks for cigars so you don't get the lighter fluid taste.
