Hi Elliot, I'm watching you from Miami, but I am from a very small village really close to La Franca. In fact I was there only a few days before you did. This episode was very special to me. I was in La Franca a couple of weeks ago. I’m Cuban, I live in Iowa and my grandmothers were from Buelna y Pendueles. I loved La Franca beach.

Love this video. I am from Madrid, capital of Spain and i am watching this video in winter. I love eastern Asturias, La Franca, Llanes and Picos de Europa and i always go there to spend the summer. Elliot no te quedes en esto de la playa , hay mucho mas que ver en Asturias. Oviedo , Gijón, las montañas , los picos de Europa, Covadonga ,Mieres, Luarca.etc.

Elliot not te confies de dejar tus ropas/valuables on la arena, sobre todo en el sur de Espana, hay personas que se dedican an siguir a los turistas para robarles. Buen video. Be careful with your valuables specially on the south of the country, they have people follow turists to rob their valuables. Good video.

Great video. The wealthy Spanish and criollos in Latin America with large haciendas didn't leave - they just switched sides when they saw the tide was turning and stayed. And then became hyper-nationalistic to ensure that they didn't lose their land. Now they are still filtering that land-generated wealth through the generations, while presenting themselves as anti-colonialist and anti-Spain, despite the fact that they are basically the descendants of a Spanish social class with enough power and influence to take and own large swathes of land. The regular landless Spanish soldier just went home. The regular hacienda-owner raged about how the Spanish had stolen everything, while sitting on his hacienda and ordering indigenous peons around. In 1812, Spain took a liberal turn, and the Spanish elite in Latin America didn't like it.

This makes me miss Spain so much! I REALLY want to go back to visit. Are their much tourists over there at the moment? Being in NZ at the moment it feels like we cant go anywhere so getting my travel fix through youtube currently.

There have been plenty of tourists in Spain all summer! It's basically open.. You just gotta wear masks indoors and it's best if you have the vaccine

Sorry for the negative feedback, but yes, Asturias could become a Mecca for skiing, a very lucrative sport that could inject Asturias with a good and desperately needed dose of life, but it is not, unfortunately. I do love the old abandoned villages. But yes, so many people walked into an Asturian village and the pharmacy is closed, the bar is closed and has been closed for a week sometimes. Dead towns by the hundreds if not thousands. Thank you for the tour
