Great horn sounds, almost like Cuban music uses, plus the percussion and unique instruments with the lights, the big stage, huge crowd, flags waving and strobe lights - what a powerful night that was!
What an insane sized concert crowd, complemented by the great musicians on stage! I have a lot of African and Afro-centric music, but Teddy's group is new to me... So thanx Sarah!!! (Fun watching you boogie to the tune too.)
The instrument you were curious about is called "Masinko", similar to a violiin. The venue was at the "Meskal Square". It is a huge place that can hold over a million people and is usually used for the Ethiopian Orthodox Meskal, the Muslim Eid al Fitir holiday and other celebrations. Teddy is without doubt, the most successful male artists in Ethiopia. His lyrics are exceptional often telling Ethiopoian history. His melodies are unforgettable. Incidentally, there is wide spread beleif among many Ethiopians, that the crowd could have been 150.000 or more. No, I was not there. While we are on the topic, I just wanted to mention that Ethiopian musical notes are not heptatonic. They are pentatonic. I have no clue why. It could be that the country had been isolated for millenia from Europe, North Africa etc. Lyrics in Ethiopia songs are written as poems, at least most of them. Hope it was useful info.
Violin is copy of masinko do you know that just got modern !!! No western countries invent just copy and imitate of east specially if you don’t know ( country rap soul r and b all Americans music except hard rock that’s HABESHA music but not by English that’s why don’t to imitate them keep what your culture do not infused that over 3000 years of culture and traditions by not even 300 years old !!
Wow 😳 you got Teddy Afro!! though you’re too late for the reaction of this concert(b/c almost all Africans & Some African-American you-tubers reacted this concert freshly), I appreciate your music passion. By the way Teddi is a high profile musician, beside his popularity in East Africa he had been on American music billboard list #4 when he had released ‘Tikur Sew’ album for 3 months coz sold 5.5 million copy within 1 week and 3 million downloads within 48 hours.
You should listen to the Scorpions,Wind of Change and Still Loving You. Also,The Eagles, Hotel California. Lastly, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Free Bird at the Oakland Colosium in 1977.
