I'm always taken aback, when things that are so common to me, are so foreign to my brothers & sisters in other states. Being from a 🇧🇧 family and fron NYC, which has a large Caribbean population, ive been hearing words like "bomboclat" since young, while you're referencing a trend...which I have no idea of. England, also has a large Caribbean population, that has influenced a lot of their slang. Guys thought I’d give you some interesting backstory that will really nail down that stormzy won this: This whole ‘beef’ took place over the course of only a few days, while Stormzy was touring the UK in a minibus on an album signing tour. Wiley sent the first track ‘eedyat skengman’ while Stormzy was travelling. So not only was stormzy travelling on the road busy, but he managed to write, record and film the videos in London in between

Skep was the first to call it grime, but Wiley was carving out the sound that eventually was called Grime years before that. it was called Eskibeat and other things before the culture agreed on Grime. Wiley would take sounds from Jungle and Garage music that he was MCing over to make a new sound. Like him or not, he absolutely deserves the moniker of Godfather of Grime. Kano was an upcoming MC at the same time but didn’t contribute to production and sound like Wiley.

The most common argument on who’s the king/godfather of grime is Wiley and Dizzee Rascal. IMO Dizzee is the one, without him grime wouldn’t have made it into the mainstream, he published the first grime album back in 2003 but he was around Wiley back then and people say it was Wiley that brought Dizzee into grime but they fell out at some point, and I think it had something to do with Dizzee getting stabbed. Wiley’s so petty that he pretty much denounced the whole of BBK when Skepta made a track with Dizzee, he went on a crazy rant on Twitter cussing Skepta out. But yeah, Dizzee made it through first. People will argue with me but he’s the biggest pioneer of grime.
