That announcer blasting the US men's soccer team was former US men's soccer star Alexi Lalas. He earned the right to call them out they deserve it.
@theatomicwookie9953

Lalas was incredibly OVERRATED. His "cool" hippy style was the only reason anyone ever thought anything of him back in the day. He was mediocre as hell in Europe. Now he's just a washed-up prick. His takes on everything are always mostly nonsense.

Alexi Lalas had every right to roast the USMNT the way he did. He earned that right since he played on that team, and it's a legendary rant even to this day.

He was captain of the 1994 team, which didn't have nearly as much talent as the more recent teams but performed much better than expected in that tournament. So he has most definitely earned the right to blast the team for underperforming.

That Alexi Lalas dressing down on live TV was during 2018 WC qualifying campaign which US eventually failed to qualify. If I'm not mistaken it was after a home loss to Costa Rica and/or tie vs Honduras who were fighting for that qualifying spot.

1:47 This is Alexi Lalas, U.S. National team defender who played in the 90's, and this was months before the infamous loss to Trinidad & Tobago that kept the U.S. out of the 2018 World Cup. Juergen Klinsmann had been sacked in the middle of qualifying after a string of bad results and was replaced with Bruce Arena. Christian Pulisic was who he referred to as "Wunderboy" at the end, since was a sensation with Dortmund at the time. 9:25 Moss did this in response to Green Bay fans mooning the Vikings bus as it arrived at the stadium that day. 13:16 This is Paul Allen, perhaps no other announcer handles bad losses better. Check out "Minnesota Vikings Announcer (Paul Allen) Funniest Calls" for more.

That was Alexi Lalas formerly of the huge red hair who was on the 94 and 98 USMNT. A lot of people find him annoying as a pundit but I stood up and said “Damn Straight” when he said that. It was at halftime of an MLS match after the loss to Costa Rica a few days earlier.

Unlike in other countries, in the United States for most sports, every individual team pays their own announcers to broadcast the game on TV and radio and they follow that team all season. For many games, there can be 3, 4, or even five different broadcast crews doing the same game for different networks. Summer paid to be impartial, some are paid directly by the team and broadcast on that teams net work.
@danbaker300
@danbaker300 Год назад
Depends on the sport. The NFL and major college sports (football and basketball) generally have national TV crews. And major games (including playoffs) in the other sports will usually have a national crew as well. For radio, though, it's almost always the specific teams' announcers, although there will often be a national radio crew in addition to the two local ones for playoffs.

I totally agree with the Hockey announcer @5:25. All the major markets get the prime time 7 PM starts. If you happen to be a fan that follows a team in a smaller market you get games that start at 9 PM and can go later than midnight. People have jobs, kids have school in the morning and can't stay up that late just to watch their favorite team.

That LSU-Ole Miss clip at the end: Les Miles's LSU teams had an ... interesting relationship with endgame strategy, to say the least. I don't think I've ever seen a team have so many chaotic endings. They somehow won most of those anyway, perhaps because chaos was a battlefield familiar to them and not to their opponents (there's an infamous one where LSU had the same thing happen, but got a second chance because Tennessee had 13 players on the field).
