Join us as we visit an impressive monastery built at the edge of cliffs over a cave where an icon of the Virgin Mary and her son Jesus was found. The icon can be seen inside also the cave where it was found. The monastery was finally founded by the Thessalonian brothers Symeon and Theodore. They discovered an icon in the cave painted by Luke the Evangelist showing the Theotokos, the god-bearer, or Mary, mother of Jesus.Considered to be the oldest monastery in Greece, dating back to 362 AD!
Kalavryta is a town and a municipality in the mountainous east-central part of the regional unit of Achaea, Greece. The town is located on the right bank of the river Vouraikos, 24 kilometres south of Aigio, 40 km southeast of Patras and 62 km northwest of Tripoli.
