I don't know. Emperors in Japan were always figure heads for some centuries. Powerful men (like in the military or clans) were really the ones in controls. I guess they don't want to return to those times.

They always attempted to westernize most aspects since the Meiji era, including the attire style. I think that mentality sticks till now.

@Soham Sharma My ex wife is half Japanese and we had some interesing conversations about Japan, the occupation as well as our answer to Pearl Harbor. We tried to strip the culture, language from Native Americans. In Japan we tried to change the culture to make them more like us. It kind of worked. They adopt many things from the west. Too bad it is the worst. American and whites in general have done terrible things to others. We have to learn from the past.

@Soham Sharma Not all of the culture of Japan is still there. When Japan was opened to the west they started to adopt western ways. We can see some of that in western dress. But the courtesy is stil there. As time goes on a lot of the other customs will drift into history. India like so many other countries who have been occupied will try to throw off the past and move into the future. Along with it will be some customs that wil disappear. I am of English/Scotish background and no little to nothing of the customs of Scotland that I tend to identify with. Sadly over time countries will cease to be or have their own 'flavor' they will be homogenous.

@Soham Sharma I think societies try to preserve as much of their culture as they can. But over time influences from outside take over. Being conquard by another society or just being exposed to other cultures thru trade. The most visible change in Japan is the change to western dress. Some older will hang onto the older style. Overall the American occupation changed Japan the most. MacArthur et al proclaimed the emporor was NOT devine. He was heard for the first time on radio. People looked at him in public and were not struck dead or blind. But the royal family is still revered.

@Soham Sharma This is a very interesting and infomrative conversation. But not for here. It is a pity that we can't exchange emails or facebook messages. Every country and society changes over time. As I said influences from being conquered to trade. Even religion has played a part in a countries development. The USA is a melting pot but isn't. But there are influences from all immigrants who come here.

Actually, for some centuries, the emperor was secretly just a figure head. Military men or clans were the ones really the ones in control. It wasn't until towards the end of WW2 that the emperor had some say to end the war.

J M Well someone's being a bit racist, eh? I know I shouldn't jump to that conclusion, however the fact that you want an entire country and its people wiped out kind of fits you. You do realize that the average Japanese people had no say in WW2, right? The Emperor was really a figure head with little say on any matter. The United States at the time of WW2 were tied of the fighting. If they had killed the emperor, not only would it have caused some kind of insurrection, but it would've made the peace they were trying to bring a very difficult one. Besides, the United States wanted to use the Japanese as a front against communism which was spreading in Asia. No way they could've done that if Japan was wiped out like you wanted. That's probably why the Emperor at the time decided to nullify his Imperial powers and allow the government to change. The Japanese people have seen from their errors during the war, thus decided to be isolationist. Is the emperor hurting you now? No? Good. Then the Emperor is doing a good job of not interfering like many emperors did in the past. Japan has remained isolationist in their military and culture. No Japanese wants to be involved with foreign bloodshed. In fact they're known to do little when the United States asks them for some military assistance. The only reason they have decided to increase their military is due to North Korea and China. You probably have heard about how NK flew a freaking nuke over their country. So yeah, try to tame that unwanted anger towards the Japanese. They're helping the world in a positive light today, and being a good example to many countries.
