I have been a fan of Japanese volleyball since Montreal 1976 Olympics when the women beat the much taller Russians in the final 3-0. Since then, I've been rooting for Japan and started playing and even represented my school, then college, then my office as a setter. Although I stand at 163cm, the Japanese inspired me to believe height is not everything in volleyball. You can compensate that with speed, agility and quick thinking. Yoshie Takeshita and Sekita are my idols. Gambatte Nippon!

Appreciate your comment so much! I've heard about the "Oriental Witches" from grampa. Volleyball in Japan has been popular among wemen's team only for a long time due to the Olympics in 1976. I know that there are so many amatur teams by women still, but volleyball got to be popular among men as well due to Haikyuu manga for these ten years. Wishing you a great career on your volleyball😄 ありがとう!

One key thing that I've seen from this year's VNL is that Japan's middles have a larger pressence. Both their attacking and blocking are improved and that’s having very noticeable effects on the game.
@raffybahian8256

This is why I love team sports above all sports. When a normally dependable player is not doing well, a different player must spring up and leads the team to victory instead. Nishida played his role perfectly today. Although Japan's S/WS are small, they always play without using that as an excuse. Their mentality and energy are like giants. I feel like people use the small height argument a bit too much. Nishida Ran Yuki all make up for it through technique and abnormal jumping. Jumping is also really dependent on your achilles tendon size, aka, just like height genetics. They are still gifted for their jumping. So using the small height argument isn't accurate.

@@mirza5422 I do not deny that Nishida's attacks are often impressive and powerful. However, aiming to score by hitting off the block is risky, and he gets blocked and loses points too frequently. He has better options available. As for his serving, while he delivers spectacular aces, his error rate is higher than his ace rate. These reasons prevent me from naming him the best player of the match, although I still admire his playing style. Looking at the team's defense, if you don't focus solely on the attacks, Ran, Sekita, and Yamamoto are crucial to the team’s effective offense. Their dedication in tracking the ball, digging, and smartly anticipating the opponent's plays makes the attacks successful. Oh, and finally, I watched this match live just like you did.

@@beserker100 Thank you for the comments and for mentioning the statistics. Regarding attacking to hit off the block, the main point is that he has more options, such as placing the ball in empty spots, to the backcourt, or tipping when facing a big block. I would like to see him play with more variety, as he has done impressively in many previous games. As for serving, in terms of statistics, it's as you mentioned. Ran's serving stats aren't as good as Nishida's (even though the difference is only a decimal point when considered as a percentage). But... I appreciate Ran as an excellent supporter, making the attacks smoothly (along with the other two mentioned in the first comment). If you read my comment carefully, you'll see that I don't dislike Nishida. I'm even happy that he scores so well. I'm just trying to explain in detail why I didn't choose Nishida for this match but chose the other three instead.

@@mysteriousoverpoweredbaldg9284 European physique and height definitely have more advantages than disadvantages. Only Japan, country from Asia that can compete on highest level of this sport, no other Asian country comes close, Japan is truly unique.

It's amazing how the Japanese jump! It is hypnotic to see how they are suspended in the air. Beautiful! Vamos Argentina!

The FIVB should check if the Japanese shoes have any unknown technological devices. Humans can't jump like that 🚀

Bro watching japan in the past, i thought their defense was lowkey weak, but holy their blocking and passing now are much improved. Having everyone back was so fun to watch.

There you go... All the people who spoke badly about Japan were proven in this match... Slovenia had beaten Brazil and the Brazilians had recently beaten Poland everything is possible in volleyball so we cannot underestimate any team in sport...

And Slovenia has beaten Poland. 3-0. Yes read it again. 3-0. The ball is round.

People only speak bad of Japan because they're jealous how good they are. It's a deranged fashion of obsession. Just let them be.
