Surfed for US his whole life, born in the US, HB, then Olympics and surfing for Japan. If I was from Japan I would be like, what? He's not that exciting either. Just like the WSL and bs surfing to hype the sport for the soul reason to sell something, hype or products. There's tons of indy surfers better, this dude was lucky to have the life he has. Totally over-rate, but I guess they have to tell stories. Just like Brazil needing "great" surfers for all those fans and sales, because that country is a huge surf country. Don't be fooled people.
