This was my first pen show ever and I was a bit overwhelmed with all the beautiful pens. But now I know what to expect and next year I'll have a game plan. And i need to start saving up. Hi Emy, It was so nice to meet you in person at this great event. The Dutch Pen Show 2023 was my second show ever (after Hamburg last autumn). The DPS was amazing, and I am so happy to have been there. That wasn't really your mom at the show? I thought it was your sister 💛. I am very excited to see your collaboration with Ben Walsh of Gravitas Pens. I love his work (bought a Quark UP pocket pen made of Zirconium at the show - it is such a great small piece...). This was a lovely video Emy, thanks for sharing it. I feel a bit embarrassed about the people at customs. Making such a scene because they haven't listened carefully enough to what you said. But I'm happy you still have all your pens :) And yes, totally happy with my Visconti HS Demo Stones ❤️ nice to be mentioned in your video. Now I feel famous 😇 Awww and your mum is such a sweet lady!! She did her best to still communicate in English. She did really well! And yes she looks young! She can't be much older than me (I'm 48). Haha I saw a lot of pictures of you and your mum from all the attendees on Instagram, you both looked great and happy! I'm disappointed I could not go and that there are no pen show closer to us in France, we'd love to have a great time with international pen-pals here. So relieved your ordeal ended well with no harm to your collection. Customs are a nightmare... they "magically" made two of my pen/ink parcels from the UK disappear (along with the money I spent for them), so I definitely dread them. Thanks for your feedback on the show !
It was such a fun experience and she was great helping me - although she didnt spoke at all English but it was on mode "understanding but no talking" :)) anyway .... to understand a smile is not required to know any other language :D Customs was a stressing environment but we've passed through it at the end
It was lovely to see you again and see your mum. I only had time for a quick round along the vendors, we had a lot of visitors. What a story about your pens, you could have been in one of those airport shows you see on tv! Glad it ended well…

Glad you had an amazing time!. One day I'll get back to Europe and time it so it lines up with one of the pen shows that you go to either as a visitor or exhibitor just to say hello. Living in Australia makes it hard for us and also very expensive. It would be awesome to meet people I have purchased pens from and have had email conversations with like yourself, Joost as well as many others. One of my greatest fears is travelling and loosing an expensive pen so I'll probably just come over with photos and might purchase a pen or two. But the experience and chance to meet some of you would be icing on the cake. Yeah I'll (just a nobody) would stay up to five in the morning and have a few drinks and laughs with you all too if I'm allowed in your inner circle of friends. Glad you had a wonderful time Emy!

Oh wow what a story ! I think if I had been in your shoes, I would have freaked out in this interrogation room, even though I had done nothing wrong ! 😂 I have always wondered about traveling with fountain pens in the carry on luggage that goes in the aircraft cabin with me. Every few years or so, I travel from France (where I live) to USA (where my father lives), and I have never dared take a beautiful fountain pen in my carry on yet. Because so many times in the past, I have had something removed from my bag by security (a tweezer, a wooden crochet for crocheting yarn, a ceramic nail file....) Under the reason that these items could be used as weapons (not sure how I could threaten a pilot with a nail file, but I understand that security goes to great length to protect everyone) So because of these previous experiences, I have never dared taking a beautiful fountain pen in my carry on, for fear that security would take it from me because of the pointed metal nib. But you seem to Travel fine with pens in your carry on ? If anyone has feedback about traveling to USA with pens in their carry on, can you tell me how it went with security? Thank you!😊
hehe - in the end it was a happy fun memory :D I put in the luggage everything that is not that high end and everything that is very sensitive I take with me in my carry on :D never got in trouble till now but I kind of expected one day someone would be interested in them :))
Let's face Emy, your are indeed famous 😊. I never had the opportunity to meet you yet, but I hope that our path will cross someday. Thank you for sharing your experience with the customs. I had a similar situation involving an expensive fountain pen although it was not related to a misunderstanding, but rather an import value exceeding the allowed amount. Conclusion, whatever you are traveling with, even if you are not supposed to show proof of ownership, if it is expensive, alway have something with you that proves its yours in the first place.
:)) although my intent was not to be famous, I think after getting so many people bored with my RU-vid videos :)) it had to happen :)) - We will meet sometime at one point and its sooner than later since we are checking more and more shows and we might make one in Romania as well :D As for customs .... yes, we must have something when traveling and that is for sure on the list next time we pack for a show
Hey guys, im thinking of gifting a friend of mine whos my best friend from italy a gift of a good fountain pen, if theres anything good for around 300 euros and under you guys could recommend id greatly appreciate it. So far im thinking pens from franklin Christoph, Leonardo officina, lamy 2000, sailor, pilot, delta, esterbrook… yeah ahaa any other specific recommendations would be great. Thanks!
