I'm curious though... Oude Lijn is 1.5 kV DC... when is the Netherlands scheduled to switch to 25kV AC? Reason i ask this is the whole EU's push to more interconnectability between countries in the EU (and 25 kV AC was the voltage of choice since it has performance increases of around 5-25 seconds per station compared to stuff like 1.5 kV DC/15 kV AC/3 kV DC etc)

Newly built lines like the Hanzelijn (Zwolle-Lelystad) can do 25kV. On existing lines the whole overhead wire system will have to be replaced. Money...

Hoi Meester, is er misschien nog een mogelijkheid tot het maken van een video over de gehele dag als Machinist? Zulke video's zijn zo tof om te zien (daarnaast weet ik ook hoeveel (edit) tijd erin gaat zitten).

Nou, dat zijn altijd zeer lastige producties. In de eerste plaats moet een dienst enigszins een interessante inhoud hebben, grotendeels gedurende daglicht, elke trein moet een schone ruit hebben, er moeten geen dienstwijzigingen zijn, bij elke rit moet er genoeg tijd zijn om de apparatuur te installeren enzovoort enzovoort. Maar wie weet zal ik dat nog eens doen. Op dit moment wordt er wel gewerkt aan een samengestelde rit, een nieuwe Grand Tour.

Een leuk weetje om misschien toe te voegen bij de Trivia van Houten: Het seinen-portaal bij 1:39:00 is de exacte locatie van het voormalige station & gebouw van Houten. Sporenplanonline en google maps hebben mij geholpen met het vinden van de locatie: Van de toenmalige overwegen, is er tegenwoordig een is verbouwd tot een viaduct, en de ander stopt simpelweg in het gras met zicht op de geluidswand.

Over to the left (3:46) is a short stub of viaduct. Did/Will it carry rails, and to/from where? The quadrupling of the line through Delft is taking an extraordinary amount of time. It seems to have been going on forever. Due to the intense passenger service between Den Haag and Delft, I assume that deliveries to the 'spirits factory' (who owns it, btw?) take place in the dead of night, or in military parlance '0-dark hundred'. The Abcoude slalom (1:15:03 - 1:16:20) I assume was a rust prevention manoeuvre. Do you know in advance that it is going to take place? Grand Tours? If you make them, I'll probably watch them - perhaps not all in one sitting.

That old piece of viaduct was part of the the line Scheveningen -Rotterdam: nl.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoorlijn_Rotterdam_Hofplein_-_Scheveningen. This was the first electrified railway in the Netherlands.

Yes that slalom was rust prevention. No. Prorail does not inform us in advance, so it causes a delay in some cases. I think that this procedure could and should be planned.

The "spirits factory" is owned by DSM. Deliveries by rail were certainly interrupted for about a decade due to tunnel construction and I doubt if they have been resumed.

@@aadmannee3928 Ah, right… haha! That connection on the left lead to the Schiehaven, several harbours on the north side of the Maas. All removed some 15 years ago.

Fun fact: You can save 1 hour of journey time by taking the ICD to Breda and then the IC to 's-Hertogenbosch XD

These are two formerly separate routes that they have combined into one for whatever reason. The train starts in Dordrecht and takes an enormous detour via Schiphol, Utrecht, 's Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven to Venlo. It says on the platform in Dordrecht that you can get faster to 's Hertogenbosch by taking a direct Sprinter via Breda and Tilburg.

@@ilex471 yea i know, it's using the IC Path of the IC Dordrecht-Lelystad, that only drives during the Spits/Rush Hour. Then this IC only drives Schiphol-Venlo

Hoihoi, Bij 1:40:38 rijd je een geel L sein voorbij. Waar staat de L voor in dit geval? Is er een video waar je dit in uitlegt? Groetjes

De L betekent snelheid verlagen en geldt voor goederentreinen. Bij het volgende sein zou er dan een H branden waar de goederentrein dient te stoppen. Dit is om te voorkomen dat een goederentrein op de helling voor een rood sein tot stilstand komt, en vanwege die helling niet meer op gang kan komen. Deze seinen zie je bij alle hellingen. Meestal is de H al gedoofd voordat ik er langs rijdt. Snap je?
